“Mexican charm in the heart of the Golden Zone”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Spent a relaxing week in Mazatlan at the Hotel Playa Mazatlan. The hotel is clean and has great service and staff. Rooms are clean with ocean view, garden and pool view. All spectacular! Restaurant on site with great food and service. In the heart of the Golden Zone with amenities very close to the hotel. Within walking distance to many shops and stores. Absolute must take in the Mexican Fiesta night with food, drinks and entertainment!

Our Rotary Club has gone to Mazatlan Mexico for over 12 years on Humanitarian Trips and we always stay at the Playa. What wonderful people! The rooms are charming, the food very good and the beach service fine. We love coming back to the hotel after a hard day of work and sitting on the beach enjoying cocktails and fellowship. We love it so much that we are coming early this year so we can have a few days of fun and relaxation. The Playa makes us feel like family.
See you Sunday!

Room Tip: Ask for Ocean Front over by the quiet pool.

I have vacationed in Mexico many times, but there was always the stress of how to get from A to B, where to find food and groceries, concerned for your safety, security and cleanliness of the accommodations. This was my first "all inclusive" vacation experience. It was also my first time traveling with kids. Frequent flights to and from Mazatlan. Easy taxi ride to Hotel Playa Mazatlan. I had wonderful experiences with the staff: kitchen, maid service, activities, concierge, maintenance, security, even the owners and administration. The food was delicious. The location was amazing not just for the beach shopping too. There is shopping just within the hotel compound or just walk across the street. There was entertainment or music every night. The beach was clean, the water was clean, the security was present but not obtrusive. Plenty of pools to choose from, secluded pool with waterfalls, party pool, kid pools, there is a pool for everyone. It was so easy! I was actually on vacation and got to relax.

We just spent 2 fabulous weeks in Mazatlan with our family. The hotel is clean, friendly, great food, safe. This hidden gem has all the ammenities of the larger resorts but all the charm of a fourth generation family owned hotel. We had the pleasure of meeting 3 genations of the family that work there everyday. The food is excellent and the "Ameican Plan" made it easy to let everyone eat in any of the four restaurants at any time. The daily water arobics class at noon in the main pool was so much fun.The ocean along the hotel is a sandy bottom that deepens gradually - perfect for playing in the water. Outside the front hotel gate is an excellent shopping neighborhood and walking distance is a strand that goes along the coast from one end of Mazatlan to the other. We have already booked our next vacation there.

Room Tip: Ocean front - the sunsets are amazing

Love, love, love this beach hotel and have stayed there multiple times and can't wait to return. This grand hotel has never slipped a notch, but continues to improve with every stay. This is the perfect beach experience with awesome waves, white sand and abundant sunshine. Our rooms were beautiful, well appointed and we never left the hotel. Everything we wanted was right there and more. You must try their fajitas that come on a sizzling hot skillet and are so delicious. Daily, there were abundant activities for our nine year old grandson and his parents. We are eager to bring more of our family to enjoy this incredible experience. The entire staff is professional, friendly and always ready to be of help. The nightly live music is perfect on the patio with the background sound of the waves. Reservations are necessary year around at this hotel as they are always full. The secret is out and travelers know that this is the place to stay in Mazatlan.

Room Tip: Corner suites are perfect for incredible views. Be sure to book an ocean front room if possible.

Dear valued guest (Nancy027)

I can't think of the right words to encompass how thankful we are to have your continued loyalty in business and the opportunity to serve multiple generations of your family members. It is always a pleasure to read about our small success stories, as you know service and customer satisfaction are at the forefront of our business plan and when we start new things we are always tentative that it may negatively impact our repetitive clients. It is good to know that the changes have been noted and we were able to provide yet another year of unforgettable memories. Thanks again for your time and consideration in posting this message, please do not hesitate to contact me directly if I can be of service to you personally.

Hotel Playa Mazatlan was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in! The view out from our room was amazing. The beach was great and perfect for kids to swim. You can experience the culture of Mazatlan by just sitting on the beach and viewing the stuff that the locals are trying to sell. Henry the Hat man is one of the best people to talk to and to buy a hat from if you can find him! Great experience, recommended highly!

Room Tip: Try to get an ocean front or view room.

Dear valued guest (Tyler B)

Let me begin for thanking you for bringing your family to this our port (Mazatlan) and furthermore for selecting the Playa Mazatlan amongst so many grand hotels in the destination. It is always great to hear that we were able to make an impact on the travel memories of a family as our goal is to earn you and your families business for many years to come. I can think of many families that are currently on their third generation of travelers to our Hotel and in some cases 4th and 5th; we look forward to perhaps making this a tradition and being of service to you and your loved ones. Please feel free to contact me direct if i can be of service during your next trip.

Best Wishes and Safe Travels,

Well talking about the whole week stay experience it was good overall, but it had a terrible start (All inclusive plan started on Jul 1st) , the food quality on the buffets was very poor on the first two days, to get a cold drink we needed to be nearby to the restaurant because the waiters were very slow to get us the drinks to the palapas. everyone made us to sign like a receipt with our room number attached every time we asked for something (grrr) even that we had yellow bracelets...... but it improved over the days, on the last days they only asked us for our room number without signing.

I love Hotel Playa, it has the best beach on Mazatlan but it's going a take some time to get used to the All Inclusive plan, the next time I visit this hotel I would like to see a small bar on each beach wing (the hotel has 2) also to provide more information on which restaurants are open at which time... that was very frustrating that we had to eat some nachos on the snack bar because we didn't know that some other restaurant was open.

Overall I think that this hotel move to all inclusive was a "necessary evil" due all competition in place (RIu and el Cid) we'll see how Hotel Playa improves over the time.

Dear valued guest (Farbeyond)

I am amazed to hear that you traveled from such a long distance to come and visit us; I am also extremely thankful for your honesty and direction on areas of opportunity that the Hotel has in improving our All inclusive plan. As you mention we are 60 years into the Hotel Service Industry and only 8 days into the All inclusive side of service. We have grown in leaps and bounds over the last week thanks to guest such as yourself assisting in spotting areas that need improvement, and for this we thank you for taking the time to let us know about them. I also look forward to next time you come, so that we may discuss the areas of improvement that you mention. I will discuss the option of more service bars by the beaches with the table of executives and owners, and I hope I have the opportunity to personally be of service to you during your next stay.

Best wishes and safe travels,
