We travelled Dec 11th to Dec 18th, 2012, first let me say, I can’t believe the negative reviews that were just posted, our stay was fantastic.
This was our first experience at a RIU and we loved it. Everything here is very new and very clean, the staff is very friendly and accommodating. When we arrived there were 4 bus loads of vacationers (150+) , we had a very early flight and had been up on the go for 8+ hours by the time we reached the hotel when we got our very first surprise. The Hotel Staff came on each bus and gave us our bracelets, we then entered the hotel and found every one of us had already been checked in and our Room Keys, Towel Cards etc were waiting for us in the lounge. We grabbed our bags and we in our room unpacking within 10 minutes of getting off the bus. By the way, they would have taken our bags to the room if we had decided to leave them but we were anxious to get in our beach wear and get our vacation started! Also, the complaints about slow elevators? This was never a problem for us. I have no idea where that complaint comes from.
The next surprise was our room, as advertised every room has an ocean view, our room was extra spacious, like brand new, with a lovely big balcony, bath room was beautiful marble with his and her sinks and a great shower and tub, again clean as a whistle. Our King sized bed was comfortable (no plastic?) and I slept like a baby every night. Bar fridge was well stocked with beer, pop and water, liquor was also available in the room, if we ran out of anything, one call to the front desk and they were there with 15 minutes of our call every time without fail. Each request was followed with a phone call from the front desk about 30 minutes later to make sure we had been looked after. Had a drink and watched the sun set from our balcony every day.
Next up the pool and beach, clean as a whistle again, lots of lounge chairs available everywhere on the beach and around the pool(s). I am a “beach walker” and the beaches here are fantastic especially when the tide is out, wide and firm for walking, not a lot to see as the hotel is at the very north end of town with not much development but the sound of the ocean was all I needed anyway. Those who love to play in the ocean waves will enjoy it here, the water is shallow and goes out a long way, they were even surfing farther up the beach.
Now on to the food, vey good for an all inclusive. I agree it was almost the same every night but I have never seen such a huge selection on a buffet, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Unless you were stuck on one specific type of food, mixing it up and finding variety was not a problem. Final note, salads were fantastic and unfortunately so were the deserts! Way too many calories consumed that week but I could not resist.
The staff was great from the front desk, in the restaurants, to the maids who cleaned the rooms, always a smile and ready to help at all times. The professional entertainment was every second night, the dancers were pros and the costumes fantastic to say the least. On the off nights the entertainment was karaoke or games with the guests which had it’s its good moments but was a bit too “college like” for me, having said that, those who participated seemed to have a great time.
I am now a RIU fan for life and would return to the RIU Emerald Bay in heart beat!
