If you're looking for a secluded paradise in Mexico, this is it. The hotel and surrounding area would make a super location for a feature film. It has a remote feel but is only a 15 minute drive into old Manzanillo. You can look up and down the beach in both directions and not see a single neighbor. David, Diana and Maria were awesome hosts. The other guests at the hotel were pleasant companions - all with a story to tell. Some of them were regulars and spent more than a month there. It's easy to see why. On several occasions, David went out of his way to make us feel welcome. For instance, he drove in front of us through the back streets of Manzanillo to find a very modern supermarket where we stocked up on Mexican ingredients and tried to cook an authentic Mexican dinner for the family. They made us feel welcome to use their kitchen to cook. Our front bumper had become dislodged from the car and without our asking, David took an interest in the problem and ingeniously got the bumper fixed and asked for no compensation for saving us about $100 worth of repair.
The hotel sits atop a bluff which has a commanding view of the sea and beach. The patio area is landscaped like a Roman villa with a beautiful pool and terrace. You can just sit here and swim and read a book out of their library or be more ambitious and go scouting by foot or car. Unfortunately, we booked this for only two nights because we didn't know what a treat we were in for.
We had three generations of family traveling together. All of us had a happy time and would recommend El Rancho for kids, seniors, families.
