Well, where to start! We are a family of 6. My wife and I are in our mid 30's and our children are ages 15, 12, 11, 6. It was our first major vacation, and I was very nervous going to a different country. Our ride to the resort was a little hairy due to the fact they could not fit our family on the bus. They split us up into two different cars and we were on our way. It happened to work out great because we beat the bus load of people to Club Maeva. I do not speak any spanish, and most of the people at the front desk spoke only spanish, so it was difficult to get it figured out. They pretty much gave us two keys and 4 towel cards and said, "next!". I just started walking with suitcases in hand and came upon a housekeeper sitting on the bench. I showed her the # on the envelope we were given, and she pointed the direction. We walked up plenty of steps to get to our villa, as it is on the hillside. Our villa was 3 levels with 2 bedroms (1 queen, 2 singles) with two couches that doubled as single beds and two bathrooms. Our room was ok. Do not expect plush! But it was fine for what we needed. The kitchen was a little primitive, but we did not expect to cook. The fridge was definitely a +.The beds were a concrete slab with pretty thin mattresses on them, so it was not the most comfortable thing. They do not provide blankets, and the pillows were thin aswell. We found that if you leave the a/c cranked during the day, and shut it off at bed time, it was the most comfortable. Our family had an absolute ball at this place. We pretty much stayed on grounds and made the rounds to the beach, waterslides, and pool everyday. The staff were friendly, but we never understood each other. The resort is occupied by about 90% mexican people, so we were definetaly the minority.
We did ALOT of walking, which was ok because it was beautiful at every turn and we were happy to be in the most perfect weather imaginable. Plenty of food, but very authentic mexican (not tex-mex that we are used to). LOTS of fruit!. Breakfast was my best meal. After about the 5 days, we were all pretty much sick of the same food. There were some things that we would not try though. BRING SOME KETCHUP WITH YOU! I was totally craving a good glass of milk aswell, which you could not get. Minty milk??? We had an awesome time though, and I would recommend Club Maeva to anybody, unless they need to be pampered at every turn. If you do, stay away. As for us, we will never forget the excellent time we had at Club Maeva. It cost our family 4200.00 for airfare (round trip from MN) and 7 days all inclusive. GREAT DEAL!
