we stayed in a privately owned villa on tesoro property.......buildings are old, pool in terrible shape and the uniformed "fun police" made having a good time difficult
the food was just ok , but we only ate there twice as we cooked in our villa or ate out mostly.....one highlight was alex's beer planet bar 2 blocks off the main drag behind the senor frog's area ...also was an ice cream stand a couple blocks down from the resort
.....pistachio ice cream was fantastic....hope it is still there?

When we arrived at check-in, they said our reservation had been cancelled and they had no room. After much whispering amongst the very young staff behind the counter, they found us a room. It was disgusting - dreary, old and very musty (I never took my shoes off). The dead-bolt lock did not work and we felt very unsafe. We were the only Americans staying at this resort and felt completely uncomfortable and out of place. CANNOT SAY ANYTHING GOOD ABOUT THIS HOTEL. Fortunately we only stayed one night then moved to the Park Royal next door and had a wonderful experience there.

Check in smooth, helpful gentleman at front desk, got ocean view room. At resort, food was more taste specific to region. We weren't able to swim in ocean very much due to choppy waves, red/black flags. Good place for whale watching, etc. Did not care too much for Sol beer. Walked to downtown Ixtapa, good shopping. We did do charter fishing trip. Yolanda in lobby helped book w/Sergio. Wonderful guide. After catching some bonita, mackerel, and yellow fin, Sergio took us to Las Gatas Beach to have our fish fixed for lunch around $5 a piece. Sergio showed us where men from the movie "Shawshank Redemption" lived, etc. Don't judge a book by it's cover here at Las Gatas. The fish, salsa and guacomole were the bomb! Sergio showed us around Zihua from the water, and after fishing, we went bargain hunting in Zihua, wonderful. The theater shows were entertaining at resort. Warning though, do not book with Best Day here for your transfers, fine going to hotel, but the representative (driver?) walked up to the hotel late and then hailed us a taxi! Resort was all in all a good value with clean rooms, bathrooms. Booked through Beach Destinations, and several vacations since. They are the best value out there for us!

Tesoro was a wonderful place to stay, the people were so friendly from the time we got there til we left. Lots of activities day and nite. The food was o.k. The breakfast was the best, we usually ate the evening meal out. Rooms were clean and cleaned daily and fridges stocked daily with water and pop. We even got to experience a 4.9 earthquake one morning as we were getting out of bed. The location was great, you could walk to restaurants, bars, shopping, 2 blocks away. The beach was beautiful, you could swim in the ocean and the pool was refreshing as it was 90 every day we were there. We took a city tour with a local bar owner of the Blue Shrimp, hename was Mark, very good and spoke excellent english and he drove SLOW and carefully, we just had to pay him what it was worth, we loaded up the cooler with Cervesa's and had a few along the way. We took the city bus out to ixtapa Island for .35 a person, it was a wild ride though, we took the cab back. Ixtapa island is a day of fun, food, beers, snorkeling, swimming, very nice, except don't expect much of the bathrooms!! We also took the sunset cruise on the Picante, which was well worth the $50 per person, we all had fun on that, took the cab down to Ziwat. on morning, it was hot, one day of that was enough, but alot to see.
We would definitly go back to Ixtapa, much nicer than P.Vallarta and Cabo
