We stayed just one luxurious night at Las Brisas thinking we might want some high-end comfort at the end of our quick trip through Mexico. Boy, what a treat this place was! We're not big fans of resort areas, but we loved this hotel. The architecture and design elements were amazing, the view was spectacular, and the service was great. We had a brief glitch at check-in when we were given a room that hadn't been cleaned yet, but no big deal -- that happens sometimes, and we were just grateful that they were letting us check in at all because we arrived considerably before check-in was allowed. They immediately moved us to a prepared room, and later sent a bottle of champagne to the room (I presume to apologize for the inconvenience, even though there was none). The grounds are beautiful. The way the hotel is built, guests in effect have their own private cove, and it's lovely. It's quite perfect for people who don't need the hubbub of a true resort, because you are isolated from Ixtapa. But, if you want the hubbub, a quick cab ride can get you there. Some of the food was lackluster (a poolside lunch was really fairly typical of hotel food, which is a shame for the price), but other food was memorable (the $20 US breakfast buffet that includes tip). We would still be there tonight, if it were at all possible!

We got our vacation package through Worry Free Vacations. Those guys are great. $2 Caronas on the bus & your thinkin "cool - this will be an awsome trip". SKREEEEEECH! You get down the the beach or pool, & they are $5.50 each. Yikes. I could not believe the prices. The breakfast buffet is $20. I think most of the guests did the all enclusive. I guess we will check into that next time. We probably could of had it paid for our first day there.
So, we ended up going to town most of the time to eat. The restaurants by Sr. Frogs were pretty much resonable. And if you want to go shopping for groceries (which you pretty much have to do to make it through the week, sneek in cuz there's a sign that says no beverages or food is permitted to bring in), go to The Walmart in Zeewhat. It's called something else, but it is owned by Walmart. You can take a bus there for 70 cents, but you will need to catch the bus on the road which is a hike, expecially with groceries. My tip for you is to take the bus there, & taxi back, then the taxi will take you to the entrance.

Taxi prices are pretty much set.
$4.00 to town (Ixtapa)
$7.00 to Walmart (Zee-what-in-a-hoo) (sorry, can't spell)
$12 -14 to any beach or restaurant deeper in Zeewhat

Pretty much everything in the next town in cheaper.
All in all, it is a very pretty place to go to check out. Not sure if I would go back again this late in the year. Very hot!!! It must have been 90 degrees everyday down there.
The people at Las Brisas are very nice. Not a lot of English speaking people around, but then it is Mexico, right???

Just my 2 cents worth. And if you don't like it, Ix-stop-it you whot-in-a-hole!!! ;-}

Dear Guest:

This is just to inform you that our prices strategy is quite related to quality.

Eventhough our food and beverage prices are similar and/or competitive with the other hotels and specialty restaurants in our destination.

Sincerely,

The Management.

Just returned from this fantastic resort... loved all the character and maze of stairs that lead you to the awesome sandy beach (with the most outstanding beach service right to your chair) to the tropical jungle designed tennis courts, to the swimming pools to the 4 star outdoor restaurants.

Very cool place, very romantic and spells out R&R.

Definitely not an activity party zone, but if you need time away from the kiddies and a break from life - IT IS INCREDIBLE.

Our biggest decision each morning, pool side or beach today?

Paradise all the way.

Las Brisas Ixtapa is a choice hotel if you’re looking for a quiet (but not too quiet) hotel in a beautiful setting with wonderfully comfortable rooms with spectacular views. The hotel is spread out with foliage lined paths between the hotel and pools and down to the beach. There are a lot of steps if you want to take them, but an elevator or a shuttle also takes you down to the beach. The rooms have comfortable, firm beds, a sitting area with a couch (which they’ll make into a bed if you wish) and a large terrace with teak chairs, hammock and pots of flowers.
You can close the screened louvered doors for fresh air at night and hear the waves on the beach below. The great service has been mentioned in other reviews and I agree the people in the hotel went out of their way to make sure any needs were met with a smile and cheerful greeting. Luiza , Jose and the rest of the staff in the beach club were outstanding with warm hospitality . Jesus at the bell stand in the lobby was also a standout as was Manuel in Las Brisas II Restaurant. They made our vacation memorable. I do not speak Spanish and did not have any trouble communicating with the staff even asking the front desk via phone to make a collect call for me ($3.40 charge).

Ixtapa is a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel and also an easy 5-7 peso bus ride on into Zihuatanejo (you can catch it down the hill from the hotel on the main road). You never have to wait more than a few minutes for a bus. Ixtapa is mostly hotels, restaurants and shops. Patronize some of the restaurants like Ruben’s Hamburgers (grilled chayote squash with sour cream!) and Any’s. Some hotels have gone all inclusive so the restaurants appreciate the business .Also don’t miss going into Zihuatanejo a bustling, colorful town with many restaurants, shopping and a walkway along the ocean to Madera Beach. You can then walk on the street to La Ropa Beach, Las Gatas Beach and the interesting eco-resort at the end of the bay. A boat back to the Zihuatanejo Marina from Las Gatas is $3.50.

Las Brisas hotel is perfect for couples, singles looking for a relaxing vacation rather than a party, and families. There were few children at the hotel the second week of March (at 60% capacity) but the following Easter week had many families both native and international coming in with 100% capacity. Food prices are U.S. resort prices and as expected but you can easily make it more economical with a little planning (a small cooler with some drinks, etc). The waves can be big but people were having fun in them and small children were in the water under a watchful eye and the ever present lifeguard. The swimming pools as well as the beach had plenty of open chairs any time of day the week I was there.

All in all, Las Brisas is an absolutely wonderful hotel in a stunning setting in a part of Mexico that has perfect weather for us northerners looking for some sun in winter. Greetings from the three hermanas!

My family stayed at the Las Brisas between March 22 and 29th of 2008. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The resort is everything you hope it will be. The view is amazing, great service, nice accommodations and great food.

The beach is lovely but the water is rough. The pools are large, all are 5 feet deep, no shallow ends, though a small wading pool is available. The pools could use a better skimmer system as there is a constant dropping of leaves, seeds, etc. from all the trees.

Each restaurant is great. Our favorites were the Solarium at the pool. The Brisas II for a sunset dinner outdoors and the Portofino for wonderful Italian fare.

Transportation to and from the resort into town is never a problem. We used taxis exclusively and were very pleased with the service and ease of use.

Only area for improvement would be the Miscelania Store in the resort. This could be such a wonderful service center offering a broad array of snacks, sweets, etc. but it seems to be treated as an afterthought. It isn't well stocked nor serviced. The staff inside doesn't seem very interested. Perhaps the next time we visit things will have improved.

We all enjoyed the Las Brisas and would give it a 95 out of 100.

  • Liked — Great service and very clean.
  • Disliked — The stone driveway was murder in a taxi!
