“4 Day Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2014 via mobile

Stayed four days at the Zaashila; booked independently and opted for no all-inclusive.

Enjoyed the room and pool....the quiet ambiance and low key feel were refreshing after staying the previous four days at the mega complex that is Las Brisas.

Hands down the best pool and beach front in Hualtulco...and yes, that includes the pools at Secrets where we also stayed.

Pool bar/service was adequate....but be prepared to fetch your own drinks upon occasion or you might die of dehydration. Main hotel restaurant was okay....some dishes were great, others marginal. The beach bar restaurant had better food but service was quite scattered....at one point we asked four different waiters for mustard and pico de gallo....finally got the mustard; still waiting on the pico...

Would stay again for the pool and the rooms with their great wine sipping balconies, but would plan on eating more off-property.

This is a beautiful resort !! The room was huge and clean. The view was gorgeous... I believe all rooms have great views... The landscaping was lush and tropical and beautiful against the ocean. Food was fantastic!!
The have just started becoming all-inclusive, so here are some things they need to work on:
-service at restaurant is deadly slow, I mean really slow
-bars don't stay open late enough
-when locals are there, we bec resortsame invisible
-no water sports equipment - have to rent from a vendor on beach
-no evening entertainment
But the ocean was beautiful...snorkeling off beach was fantastic (bring your own stuff)
Great place for quiet vacation - needs to address above to compete with true "all-inclusive"
Oh yeah - always a beach or pool chair available

We stayed at Camino Real from Feb. 8-15, 2014. The grounds are beautiful: gardens everywhere, water trickling all around the stairs and pathways throughout. It is built into a hill, and lovely! If walking/stairs are difficult for you, you may have trouble enjoying the views! The beach and pool are amazing! Towels and lounges provided, as well as plenty of shade wherever you prefer to sit. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Everything was clean and well kept. We did not do all-inclusive because we love to explore the area. Each night we took a cab into town to purchase dinner and a few groceries for the next day's breakfast/lunch at the beach. There are endless options for cheap, authentic dinners as well as places to purchase fruit, juice, beer, and an amazing bakery. We are saving for our next trip to Camino Real!

Room Tip: Rooms on the beach end (away from the pool) are quieter.

After many trips to Mexico and "Google"ing until my fingers hurt trying to find an all inclusive trip, we took a chance on Camino Real Zaashila. Last year we were at Dreams next door and although we would never go back to Dreams (that's another story), we really loved the location and the direct flight from Vancouver. We are so glad that we chose Camino Real Zaashila!!! What a great experience we had, fabulous food, awesome room, beautiful setting, amazing pool, fantastic service, excellent weather, super nice people, beautiful grounds, quiet, peaceful, and we would go back in a heart beat and will again and again. We are so happy that we no longer have to search and search for our place in the sun. And yes, there was a convention for a couple of days during our stay which didn't impede on our great time in the slightest. However, if you are the type of person who likes lots of activities, action, and partying, this isn't for you. For us it was a place to completely relax. We can't wait to go back.

Stayed here for two weeks and currently in second week. The first week went fairly well although the all inclusive package here is still relatively new to the resort so no wristbands and you have to sign for everything (easy to live with) and the food quality is very good. They do a buffet style breakfast then A la Carte for lunch and dinner or you can do room service which is also included. The resort wasn't very busy and very quiet as there are no daily activities or music blasting by the pool. HOWEVER a huge business convention crashed the resort last Thursday and the first night they had a private stage and show setup by the pool area blasting music until midnight, then the next morning we find out our designated pool area breakfast spot is closed and only open to the convention and the all inclusive folks got moved to an alternative spot (which is ok but some notice would have been nice), then we show up at the seafood restaurant for dinner with our reservations (1 of the 2 dinner choices) only to find out it was closed due to the convention. The second night of the convention the poolside private disco setup blasted very loud until 2am keeping many folks awake; a trip to the front desk with a complaint was simply answered by "sorry we have a convention, it will be over soon". So after 4hrs of sleep then a quick breakfast we get comfortable at the beach as in previous days only to find out part of the beach area was closed to the convention folks for volleyball and soccer accompanied by more loud music most of the afternoon. That night the convention folks had nothing going on but a private wedding party once again closed the seafood restaurant and played very loud music until late into the night. One piece of advice, if you do stay here... Don't stay directly by the pool area as during special functions in can be very loud. The fact that the resort seems to cater to event people over standard guests and simply ignores complaints of noise is totally unacceptable - I think quiet time after 11pm or even 1130 is not to much to ask for and for a 4 or 5 star resort should be without a question an acceptable policy. The fact that the resort advertises it's no activities or loud music and shows on it's web site they should hold to their own policies. It was a nice place to visit but I would not come back here as there are many places that you can visit without being deprived 3 nights of sleep in a row (especially for the price).

Arrived 24th Jan for 7 nights

Just got back from Camino Real Zallia, Huatulco, Mexico, great vacation.

I have been reading very fluctuating reviews from this resort, from Excellent to very poor, I hope this review clarifies a few issues for travellers who are considering this venue.

First and foremost, we had a fantastic time, the hotel is situated on semi exclusive beach, only real access is through the property, I liked this, there were always seats available in shade or sun around the pool or on the beach. I think all reviews reflect positive remarks concerning the location.

Food was very good, not great, but very good. Due to the resort not being fully booked there was only one restaurant open for lunch and evening dinner every day. However the food was good in each, our first meal was dinner at the beach restaurant Azul Profundo. Fish dinner overlooking the ocean on a breezy evening, romantic setting, how can that not be good. My hubby and I enjoyed all our meals at both restaurants.

We had 3 evening meals at the Azul.

The upper restaurant, Chez Benini, served a completely different menu, the New York steak was Excellent, best steak I have had at an all inclusive resort. We ate at this restaurant on 2 evenings, again very pleasant enjoyable meals.

The in-room service was a little hit and miss. The first occasion we waited for an hour before I called to see if our dinner was going to get delivered, apparently our room number was incorrectly communicated to the kitchen, the staff corrected as quickly as possible after my second call, our re-heated meal was finally delivered. Not the best experience but we ate it. Did this spoil our vacation NO. We had options, could have gone to restaurant or ordered a different meal from in-room service. We ordered twice more on different occasions for in-room service and the food was delivered in acceptable time frame and tasted fine. Just allow a few more minutes than you might expect for delivery if you decide to have a meal delivered to your room, beach or pool!

Breakfast was buffet style, lots of choices, again very enjoyable.

The staff, what a great team, always a smile, always tried to please. Absolutely no complaints there at all.

Not all the staff spoke English so a bit of hand jestering and pointing was required to fully communicate what was required, however, Mexico's language is Spanish not English, so have some fun with it, don't treat it as an issue, it is one of the fun things being in a foreign country. The non English speaking staff tried very hard and had fun too.

The rooms were very good, a little dated but that did not concern us at all. High quality linen, plenty of towels, spotless room, good air conditioning, ocean views from the balcony, free in room safe, fridge stocked everyday. When we checked in we inquired about a room with a splash pool. There was one available but would cost additional $30 a day, we decided not to get it. Upon reflection, if you are considering a room with a splash pool and are unable to get one or don't like to pay the extra don't feel bad. The splash pools are in full sun most of the day, for me that is just to much sun, they are also adjacent to the beautiful swimming pool with free beach towel service. Finally, hardly ever saw anyone in them.

I spent a considerable amount of time off the resort, the locals were friendly, the town is a $5 taxi ride, consider an all day taxi, very affordable.

We took a boat tour round the bays, the Captain adjusted his trip to include snorkelling, fishing, bay watching, dolphins and turtles were seen up close, some people we talked with also saw whales. The boat was the Blue Marlin, Captain Enrique, if he approaches you for a boat tour, you can have a lot of fun on his boat, highly recommended.

BIG considerations if you are looking at this resort.

1 No entertainment at night, no load music in the day, very relaxing soft music at dinner, very romantic setting.

2 Built on a hillside, quite a few steps to negotiate, but not a big deal.

3 All the little kids there seemed to be having a great time, there was some type of kids club to keep them entertained and supervised.

4 Very safe off the resort, some local ruins and other sites worth checking out.

Will definitely go back, this is a great resort.

We stayed for two nights at the Camino Real Zaashila in a great room with our own pool and small terrace. The beach at the hotel is very nice in a secluded bay that makes for very calm, transparent waters.
The staff was friendly, and the hotel grounds are beautiful.
One issue that should be considered is that there are all kind of stairs to get from the rooms to the beach, dining areas, etc. so for people with physical disabilities it can be a problem.

Room Tip: Rooms at the pool level MAY be accessible by golf cart and therefore more suitable for people having...
