“great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2014

We stayed at the Binniguenda for 2 weeks and had a wonderful time. We were looking for a 'small', friendly resort and were encouraged by reading other Trip Advisor comments before we left Canada. Our room was comfortable and clean, although occasionally there was a drain smell in the bathroom that is probably fairly typical in Mexico. We really appreciated the efforts and 'towel art' creations of the housekeeping staff......in fact the friendliness of all the staff is one of the best features of this hotel, whether in the restaurant, at the front desk, or at the various bars and so on. Jacinta, at security was a delight (as were many of the others) and smilingly kept track of us as we left the hotel, or arrived back from our adventures. On our first night we found the music from the entertainment so loud, we were a bit concerned, but cum 10.00pm all is quiet. The dancers and performers work so hard and are very talented, having tons of energy and enthusiasm. Bravo to them all.

The grounds are beautifully kept and the decor, although simple, is well done. A few more typically Mexican touches would be nice.
We found the food perfectly fine and loved the variety of fruit that was available at breakfast. We appreciated all the effort and hard work that must be needed in order to keep so many different palates satisfied. Some better quality bread for toast in the morning would have been a bonus.
We made some wonderful new friends and saw some great places and especially enjoyed being at a resort where you could just walk 5-10 minutes and be at the beach or in the Santa Cruz 'market' area. We felt safe walking everywhere and for longer trips, the taxis were perfect.
Thinking back, it would have been helpful and interesting to have some detailed maps on display and also some information about local birds, animals and flowers.
Would we stay at the Binniguenda again??? Yes, most definitely!!!

My husband and I are here as I write this. I agree with all the favorable comments and want to add one for Michelle, the Concierge. I had a dental emergency, - she called her own dentist and stayed on task until she got him to see me (Saturday, he was closed). She put us in a taxi, told him where to take me - and in 20 minutes I was in the dentist chair being attended to. He was top notch - so Michelle and her dentist literally saved our vacation. I'll write more after our stay here ... But wanted readers to know that this hotel takes good care of their guests!

We think this hotel is much better than the 3 start rating it is given. It is small and quaint with pretty much only Canadian and Mexican guests.

There are so many things we loved that I'll list them all:

Smiling, friendly, hard working staff, eager to please (but the front desk staff were not so great)
Very clean
Spacious room with safe
Comfortable bed
Lots of comfortable and available lounge chairs poolside (only one family "saved" their chairs every morning)
Delicious buffet 3X day
Different dinner theme every night
Fantastic live dance performances, different every night (costumes, sets, choreography and music were well above what we expected)
Fancy a la carte Italian restaurant available once per week Fri or Sat night. Delicious with extra attention to detail and service.
Beautiful gardens including a cactus garden with signs of the names of all the plants and a swing bench
Back of property against biological reserve
Beautiful interior design and decorating
Chamber maid left designs with fresh flowers on our bed almost every day
Unlimited cold bottled water
Beach club with transportation, food and drinks, umbrellas and lounge chairs
Pool with built in lounge chairs, nice size with nice music and a fountain. Unfortunately, the small tiles on the bottom of the pool were coming off while we were there which looked and felt bad, but hopefully they will get it repaired in their off season.
On-site local craftsman selling lovely jewellery, pottery etc (wraps up well for travel home)
Security asks your room number when leaving the property
Gates locked at 11pm, but front desk will let you in
Taxi always immediately available
Hotel right in Santa Cruz, so no transportation needed to look around at shops or go to the beach/marina
Quiet area at night
Safe neighborhood, we went for a walk every evening after dinner and were never nervous
Spa services available on-site in an outdoor tent in the garden or at their location with free transportation provided (I had 3 massages, they were so good)
Lots of fresh clean towels everyday and whenever you want
Fresh sheets everyday

This is not the place for you if you want to party. The bar closes at 10:30pm and the majority of the guests are older or Mexican families with small children. There are no night clubs in Santa Cruz. This is exactly what we wanted, so we were very pleased. However, the dancers were very friendly and invited us to go dancing near La Crusicita on the weekend, but they weren't going until after midnight so we declined.

There are a few things that we imagine are what keep this hotel from having a higher star rating:
No on-demand TV programming or movies and cable TV had poor reception at times (but there were 3-4 stations that aired English shows with Spanish sub-titles)
No swim-up bar
No room service
Only the two restaurants with buffet 6 out of 7 nights
Hotel not on the beach
Shower water pressure and temperature up and down when the hotel is busy
Mild sulfur/sewer smell from toilet, but not all the time

The hotel was packed on the weekends with Mexican families, so the pool got a little noisy and crowded for our liking. These days are best spent at the beach or on an excursion.

All in all we had a wonderful time. We felt very well taken care of at the Binniguenda and miss thier smiling faces.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor have high vaulted ceilings. We stayed in room 311 which had a cute little bal...

An excellent Mexican hotel that exceeded our expectations. Loved it ! Customer service was very good. Rooms were spacious and comfortable and housekeeping and grounds keeping staff kept everything clean and tidy. The buffet had a lot of tasty Mexican food and regular fare to accommodate a Canadian palate. The beach club needs some work. Why not partner with chahue beach club for hotel guests ? There are many beaches in the area to explore so we only used the beach club once. Be aware that there can be a lot of kids in the pool on weekends when Mexican families vacation here so plan on a day out to another beach if you want quiet chill out time. I recommend this hotel and would return. Good value, good service and great location. Thanks to all staff for a great vacation !

We specifically booked this hotel because of the favourable reviews on Tripadvisor. Small and generally quiet, the staff was very nice and helpful at all times, the rooms were very clean and so were the restaurants. Food was good overall and I understand that because it's a smaller property with out a lot of guests the food selection is more limited but it's all fresh and there's something for everyone. The grounds are very nice and well laid out including the big pool which is always cleaned and not overly dosed with chemicals. The only complaints I have is that the music from the evening shows is way too loud since the guest rooms are right next to the stage and the hours of the restaurant and bar. They close the bar at 10:30 pm and breakfast doesnt start till 7:30am which seams a bit late for early risers wanted to enjoy as much of the sunshine as possible. Overall its a nice, friendly little place within walking distance of the beach and shopping.

Room Tip: ask for room 115 on the ground floor, it's the only one with a full terrace , the rest all all j...

We appreciate your comments, it is very important for us to know about your experience in this hotel, this is the only way to know what we are doing wrong and what we are doing good
About the shows, maybe the music in the shows is a bit strong, but is only fifty minutes (from 9:00pm to 9:50 pm)
Everyday, early in the morning (from 6:00am) we have coffe in the lobby bar (near to the pool), besides, each room has a coffee maker for guest who enjoy to prepare itself an aromatic coffee..however, I am transmitting your comments about the schedule of the restaurants to General Manager
Thank you

Located Blvd Santa Cruz, Huatulco. Great little local hotel. Clean, clean, clean. Rooms are decent with (free) safe, 2 queen beds, clean sheets, towels, bathroom/shower. Staff are amazing. Not much English spoken but they try to please. One girl at the front desk was quite fluent. Otherwise you make due. Kind of nice anyway. Maria, the little girl who cleans, is super! All staff were helpful and hardworking. Manager was around too greeting people and helping out. Food at the all -inclusive was good, lots of variety. Entertainment shows every night which some people enjoyed. Not my thing and kind of loud as our room was close but they don't have the show late at night so not a big deal. The pool was lovely, not huge but certainly big enough to do some swimming or just sit and relax. Nice kid's play area and small pool gated, to the side looked very good. Enough chairs around the pool (beginning of January seems a bit of a slow time in Huatulco so was quiet/less people). Great air conditioner in room. Drinks were not great, beer fine but hard liquor drinks/mixes were boring/plain/cheap but they are free. Hard to figure out times for lower bar and upper bar and restaurant for snacking and drinks. When we arrived at 5 pm or so we had missed the snack bar and restaurant not open yet but nice Manager had sandwiches made for us! Airport at Huatulco is small, feels safe. Airport van/taxi safe, nice driver spoke English. Other town taxis are good/safe/friendly. Binni Hotel has many Mexican guests from Mexico City or other places which is fine. Fun to watch their kids playing in the pool. Appreciate the security at the hotel, always checking on when you leave and return to the hotel, nice they are watching out for us tourists. Felt pretty safe wandering around after dark in Huatulco. Walked to Santa Cruz beach couple of blocks every day/night. Took taxis to other beaches for snorkling/swimming, easy way to get around. Huatulco is HOT and dry, interesting vegetation, very friendly people everywhere. Binni is good location in town; who needs big resort on Tangolunda Beach with all the other tourists, Binni feels more local and gives you more of a cultural experience. Good job Binniguenda!

Room Tip: We stayed on main floor because of my knees. Any room would be fine but no elevator to upper floors.

Wive and I enjoyed the look and feel of the Binny, more up scale than nearby hotels. The distance to the beach, marina, and Santa Cruz was perfect for walking with interesting shops, and colorful birds to watch along the way. The beach club is....in a good location. There is decent snorkeling by the rocks, good enough for your first day in Huatulco. We stopped by the club to grab a cerveza or a bottle of water when we were in the nieghbourhood. This is a great hotel for foodies because you wont feel bad leaving the buffet to sample the local fare, I recommend the Krystal Rose for a nicer dinner out( tortilla soup and arrachera steak highly recommended). The lounge bar had a great vibe, we enjoyed sharing the days adventures with new friends. The bartenders were great, Julien took great care of everyone. The whole staff were pleasent and professional. We would return to the Binny.
Dennis and Karen

Room Tip: the inside rooms face the very appealing grounds.
