Note - there is NO Beach, NO beach access, and NO beach club. Other than that, this is a really cool hotel. Spectacular views from the room, as well as pool and restaurant areas.
Despite problems with my initial reservation through Expedia, we had a great stay. Expedia informed me that the Ocean Villa I had reserved was no longer available, even though my credit card had been charged in full. Repeated attempts to contact the hotel went unanswered. My last attempt was contacting the architect, Miguel Angel Aragones, and Star Diamond Award group, at which point I finally received a response, confirming that everything was fine with my reservation. I proceeded to make special arrangements for a special birthday surprise (champagne, flowers, balloons, bday cake, etc.) which were all perfectly executed by the hotel concierge. Thank you!
The Ocean Villa Encanto is amazing, awesome architecture, incredible private pool, huge private wrap around patio with amazing views. There was no shade and very strong sun, and getting the hotel to bring an umbrella took some coaxing, but they finally agreed. All of the food was excellent, particularly the different ceviches, fresh fish, pastor tacos, etc. The menu is somewhat limited, but everything is exceptional. Well done Monica Patiño!
This is truly a one of a kind hotel, with the modern architecture, design, and awesome night time lighting. The coolest swimming pool anywhere, beautifully displayed art and their own unique gallery. Our room also was very unique with the views, floor to ceiling windows/sliding doors, automatic black out shades, and very cool lighting inside the room, patio, and pool. Turn down service was very nice, with different unique treats in place of the standard chocolates. Bathroom was awesome, luxurious linens, although the mattress was thin and very uncomfortable.
Service was friendly and attentive, but not very refined or professional. Staff in general could use some extra training, no one seemed really knowledgeable about the menu or overall facilities. We asked three different people about the Beach Club that was described on the website, and received three different responses, ranging from they didn't know there was a beach club, or that it was currently closed for maintenance, or that the hotel didn't pay their fee. Oh well, we enjoyed our private pool immensely. The waiters we talked with didn't seem very familiar with the menu, unable to talk about food ingredients, preparations, recommendations, etc. Also, there was always some confusion during lunch to dinner transition, regarding where they had service, from which menu, who was on duty, etc. but again, the outstanding food mostly made up for this.
Everything is pricey, but well worth a special romantic getaway. I highly recommend the Hotel Encanto.
