Took my mom on a trip to Acapulco and we had a wonderful time. We stayed at the Emporio and had no issues whatsoever. It was centrally located for the things we wanted to see and do. The hotel's recreation representative did a wonderful job at coordinating all of our dinners and 3 excursions: to the cliff diving show, to the Silver mining town Taxco and a half day of shopping in Acapulco with a private guide who was a delightful woman.
The food was good--we liked the buffet selection.
Teh staff was attentive and friendly and we especially loved lounging by the pool and enjoying the great service there as well.

My boyfriend and I stayed there for 5 days last month. Unfortunately, the weather was not what we were hoping for and we ended up spending the majority of the stay in doors. I would like to state that the hotel itself is nice, clean and for the most part we felt safe. My problem with this hotel lies with the customer service that we have received upon our return. We booked our stay through bookit.com and were completely confused when we were told by the receptionist that we had to pay for our room when we were checking out. We had waited in line for quite a bit at that point and were not sure that we would make our international flight out, so my boyfriend gave his credit card and assumed bookit.com was at fault and that we would be credited the money once we spoke with them. Weeks after calling and emailing, we have still not heard back from the hotel and bookit.com has been less then helpful as well. I completely understand that mistakes happen, but how a company/hotel/agency/individual handles these mistakes says more to me then anything. You would think after several phone calls to the hotel, emails from bookit.com to the hotel contact person & account department, that a manager from the hotel would have the decency to return a phone call or email. I'm upset again just writing this review! Like I stated, the lack of customer service from this hotel is enough to make my boyfriend, a regular for years, decide to never stay with them again.

Beautiful view of Acapulco. Very clean. Very good service. Extremely good price. Some of the best room service food I have had. Drinks on the beach sometimes did not have liquor so we had to watch them make them.

Me and my husband have vacationed in Acapulco for 30, and have always stayed at this Hotel. It was the Hyatt when we first started going but has changed hands a few times. When the Emporio took it over it was the best it had been in years.
The Staff was always friendly, and service was great ! The Huts on the beach were a little expensive, but they deducted the price you paid for the Cabana's from your food and drink bill, so it was basically free. Maybe they changed it though, but should go back to that way.
We were unable to go last year for the first time in 30 years.Hopefully we can return next year. We usually stay for 3 weeks.
I know most of the staff have probably changed and we won't see them, but believe me they are all trained to be respectful, kind, and helpful to all the clients. If you are nice to them then they are nice to you. That goes for anywhere you stay.
I miss Acapulco and all the friends we have made thoughout the years. We will be back and yes we were a little afraid of the crime that has gone on this past year. I hate what has happened to this beautiful Country and especially Acapulco. It was our home away from home. Please don't hesitate staying at the Emporio, it is a great Hotel for the price ! Incidents can happen at any Hotel, even the one's your paying $1000.00 a night.
Thank you,
Terry and Sharron Tepfenhart

Dear faithful Guest:

Thank you very much for your review and sharing your experience with the travel community.

We are shure that you wil recognize part of our staff. Retaining valuable employees is one of our commitments.

About the huts, we are still deducting the price for them in Food and Beverage consumptions. Practically free. By this action we try to motivate guest to not buy products to the informal vendors at the beach. Our prices are exactly the same. The difference stands in the hygiene of how the food is prepared.

We really want to see you back next year. Acapulco strip is secure, don´t be afraid.

Sincerely,

Miguel Mestas
Managing Director.

I stayed in the Emporio for 4 nights in April 2011. The hotel is located between the main road and the beach, just across from a small shopping center and offers direct access to the water.
It is fairly big and equipped, with pools, garden, gym, ... pretty much everything you would expect to find in a hotel of this size and category. Unfortunately, like the rest of Acapulco, everything is kind of old and outdated. I found myself constantly thinking: this might not have been a bad place ... back in the 80s. That was probably the time, the rooms have seen their last refurbishment.
The stuff is friendly but also incredibly slow ... you might loose one day of your vacation just waiting to check-in. Also, since most international tourists have abandoned Acapulco for places like Cancun, and now most of the guests are Mexicans it can be hard to find a staff member who speaks English.
The overall value of the hotel is just not satisfying, more than 100$ per night for a place like this is simply too much. If this hotel is rated number 6 in Acapulco, I strongly suggest you try to crack the top 5 for your stay.

Dear Guest:

We really appreciate your comments regarding your last stay with us at the Emporio Hotel.

Your comments about the check in process and the shortage of bilingüal staff and their pace of service, have been discussed with the Executive Committee. Be sure that we will take the necessary actions to ensure a better quality of service.

The Emporio Hotel is a 1960 Building. In 2004 the Hotel closed its doors for a complete refurbish. The renovation included guest rooms, restaurants, a complete exclusive new pool (no children allowed), family pool, lobby, front desk and lobby bar.
