“Very Disappointed!”

Hyatt Regency Acapulco

This is not your usual Hyatt. It is sooo not up to Hyatt standards. Since I always want to say something positive in a review, I will say that our room location was wonderful. We had a corner room on the 10th floor, meaning we had a balcony that looked out onto Acapulco Bay and then wrapped around the corner to look up into the hills. Beautiful. That was the best part of our stay. Unfortunately, there were lots of bad parts, too.

First, the air conditioning in our room didn't work. We had to complain THREE times before it was finally fixed. This was unexcusable, especially because we went straight to the manager after our first request was ignored. We were told the air doesn't work very well, once by the front desk clerk, and then a second time by the manager. We told her that it should not be warmer inside than outside, but we speaking to her did nothing, so we spent a very uncomfortable night tossing and turning. We opened the balcony doors, but the 10th floor was a favorite landing spot for the local pigeons, and we had to chase them away a few times. Opening our doors any wider would have invited the entire pigeon neighborhood. Finally, the next afternoon, after complaing a third time, someone actually came up to our room to investigate and announced that no, the air was not working. It was promptly fixed.

Also, the beds. If you like hard as a rock mattresses, then this is the place for you. I was expecting the really nice and comfy beds at every Hyatt Hotel I've recently stayed in. Not the case here. I was very surprised to find that it wasn't Hyatt bedding, and to make matters much worse, the pillows had other people's drool stains all over them. It turned my stomach. Disgusting. There were no pillow covers, just pillow and case, so of course they were stained. When further investigating the bed, we discovered stained pillowcases, stained sheets (black smudges everywhere,) and many small holes in the blanket and bedspread. Yuck. I didn't feel like I was staying at a Hyatt but instead in a no-tell motel (at least that's what I think they would be like ;0).

I hate writing bad reviews, but between the air problem and the nasty bedding, I can't say many nice things. Pleasant staff, okay food, nice pool area, and nice location can't really make up for no air and stained, worn, dirty bedding. Very, very disappointing.

“Great deal and pleasently surprised!”

My wife and I stayed for a week and after reading some reviews, we expected less. This hotel was in a great location, convenient to the bus (right across the street) and Starbucks and restaurants, (a few short blocks walk each morning). The hotel staff was as perfect as one can expect and the remodeled room we had with the ocean/pool view and balcony was a steal for the price. There were all you can eat buffets with live music on the beach and pool deck each night as well. I will recommend this Hyatt especially for the price!

We stayed at the hotel for a week and only have great things to say about it. It was very very clean. There were always housekeepers cleaning up the public areas.
The grounds are gorgeous. The pools inviting. We had no problem getting seats where we wanted them (overlooking the ocean).
The rooms are very very large. The beds are very very firm - not cheap flimsy mattresses, rather just really firm. Very little tv in English, but you are not in the room much. Also, no alarm clock in rooms.
We went there because of the kosher restaurant which was very very good. It was clean, service was great, food was tasty and plentiful.
We hope to go back again.

Again, the Hyatt is the place to be if you are looking for a grand view of the Acapulco harbor, beautiful sunsets, great service and convenience.

My fourth stay at the Hyatt was welcomed by Regency Club staff Mary and Elizabeth and towel palapa guys Saul and Victor who remembered us from our previous visit two years ago, along with all of the wonderful El Pescador pool waiters. What a joy to be remembered! And hear this. After a day in the room we were given on the northeastern facing side of the hotel, I went into the Regency Club, and Mary asked me if I would like the room that we had stayed in two years ago. She remembered (or perhaps looked it up?) the exact room and set us up in the southwest facing room for the remainder of our weeklong stay.

The rooms are the same as before. No remodeling that I could see. The hotel is in need of some work, but overall it feels like a second home now. Do you really want carpeted floors in a tropical destination?

Here's the great thing about Acapulco. Unlike Cancun, many people speak English, but they want you to try and speak Spanish if you don't know it already. In Cancun, everyone wants to practice their English. The people of Acapulco really appreciate it if you try to speak Spanish, and when you fail, they help you out.

To be honest, we did encounter two roaches. I hate to say this as I love this hotel. This is the first time that I've experienced this. Growing up in a home where my mother kept a very clean home, I know that this can be a losing battle, even when the Orkin guys try multiple times. The only thing that worked was some product called Roach Proof.

Don't let this deter you. Go to Acapulco. Stay at the Hyatt. If you spend a little extra, stay in the Regency Club which provides a light breakfast and an early evening light dinner with wine as part of the package. Visit the beach briefly (it's not the best beach in the world) and then go back to the wonderful pool area. Smile, speak nicely (in a little Spanish if you can), laugh, joke and make friends with the two Fernandos, Emeliano, and all of the other wonderful pool waiters. And tip them as you would tip at home. Do the same with the folks at the towel palapa. They're all wonderful people who will treat you like you are their special guests. Wear lots of sunscreen and enjoy. If you do this, you will completely forget about your worries and be transported into the wonderful atmosphere that is Acapulco and it's people. And never miss a sunset.

I had a great experience at the Hyatt. I was there from Nov. 17 - Nov. 22, 20007. The room was very clean and very large, the bathroom and closet were large also. The water temperature and pressure were great. The beds were hard, but ask any chiro and that is the best. The balcony was big, and we had a great view of the ocean. The service was great, no problems in check-in or check-out. There was a extra charge for mini-bar that we said we didn't use and they took it off, no questions asked. The pools were nice, the kid pool was perfect. Actually, both pools were good for kids. Room service was rather good. Try the "molletes". The buffet at El Ceiba was great. Check out time was at 1:00 PM, so we enjoyed the beach the entire morning before we left. Oh, and Joaquin and Tito attended to us at the beach, they were great.

I did not try the spa or fitness center, and I didn't hang out at their bars. We spent most of the time on the beach or in the pool.

Yes, it's an old hotel, it doesn't have the newest, fanciest furniture, but everything was in good shape, clean and comfortable. My only complaint were the restaurants which were too expensive. Particularly El Pescador. It is looking out to the ocean, so that may be what you are paying for. It was okay, taste-wise.

I didn't think the Cliff Divers were that great, if you do go, go in the evening, it was too hot during the day. It's one of those things that lasts 10 minutes.
