My wife and I traveled to Acapulco last summer and we stayed at the Boca Chica hotel mostly based on reviews from this website. First the pros:
-Price: we paid about 60 dollars and that included breakfast. Much cheaper than anywhere else we looked.
-Manager-I think he was the owner of the hotel, and he was very kind. It was raining the night we got there but we wanted to go eat some tacos, and he directed to a good place within walking distance and gave us an umbrella.
-Food: we only ate breakfast there, but it was quite good. Especially because it was included in the price. It was very authentic Mexican food and was a nice sit down atmosphere by the bay.
View- we had a great view from our balcony of the caletilla (bay)
The Cons
-The rooms are very old and kind of run down. They have concrete floors and the air conditioning does not work very well at all. The beds were rock hard. The bathroom was pretty old but it was clean.
-The beach next to the hotel was very dirty and not a great place to swim/play. There were a lot of fisherman and it smelled of rotting fish and the sand had a lot of glass in it. To sum up the beach "good from far, but far from good"
-The location is pretty far from downtown and out of the way. our taxi driver told us that it was the dangerous part of town. I felt ok having lived in Mexico a few years, but my wife was a little scared. A good point was that it was very quiet and not by any main roads. It was very close to "la Quebrada" which was a great attraction.
I gave the Boca Chica hotel an above average rating because for the price, you aren't going to find anything better. But if you are looking for a really nice place to stay and pamper yourself, this isn't the place. It isn't Americanized if that is what you are looking for.
