Staying at the Flamingo is like taking a trip back in time to a more genteel era. A time when people really knew how to relax and chill out.
The hotel is older and a lot of the features look and feel like they haven't been updated since 1940. Don't get me wrong...maintenance is top-notch here, it's just that when you walk into the lobby and see all the pictures of hollywood stars like John Wayne and Johnny Weismuller staring down at you, looking as fresh as if they were hung yesterday, you start to realize that this isn't your mainstream, run-of-the-mill mega resort (as if you'd be there in the first place if that was what you were looking for).
The hotel is small. It's comfortable--dare I say "cozy". It's funky. It's old. It used to be the private domain of a group of Hollywood stars who bought the place lock, stock and barrel and used it as their own private shangrila.
I stayed in Tarzan's House -- a small standalone circular building that is a 2-bedroom private suite with a wrap-around deck and private ramparts built into the cliffs on a bluff over the Pacific. Lay in the hammocks and feel a warm breeze blow through your hair as you rest, or lay out by the swimming pool sipping Acapulco's best Coco Locos.
Don't be surprised if a few local racoons come for a visit as you enjoy dining in the expansive open-air restaurant...
A great, affordable and nostalgic place to hang out for a couple days...
