I stayed at this hotel after a flight up from Mexico City. I was in town for 5 nights.
As many others have mentioned, the location is the first thing you notice. There is nothing you can walk to unless you're doing business with Amway, IBM, or HSBC Bank which is all in the same compound. If you want to see the actual city of Monterrey, you'll need a cab or someone to take you. It's not close to anything other than a highway and construction in a riverbed.
The room was average. The bed was very good. Nothing really stood out.
The place can use an update in the rooms. My room could have used some paint and freshening up. Whoever did the drywall and plaster work needs to be trained again because it was pretty poor in several areas.
I happened to be at the hotel when several bus-loads of kids were in town and there was no control of the kids. They were fascinated by me and it was interesting to see some of them starting at me and rubbing my arm without asking to see if the Black would come off. But then there were times when I would get on the elevator and every button had been pushed and so we would stop at every floor. If you were in the lobby and pushed the button to go up, the elevator doors would open, a group would get on and then the elevator would go down to the parking floors below. The kids made me want to change hotels but due to safety concerns, I stayed put.
The wireless internet was free, but horrible. Being in the IT Industry, I decided to scan the network to take a look at what was going on. They have plenty of access points with good signal throughout the building, but it appears that they have a substandard infrastructure network switch and router. I would wager that there are several bad network data cables also that need to be changed.
The restaurant staff was great. They were very friendly and spoke English well enough. They had menus in English as well as Spanish. There were a couple times where the service was a bit on the slow side but that may have been due to the large number of people they had to serve at the time we were there.
All in all, this is a safe hotel and the area seems safe because there's nothing near you! With some updates, new wireless, and more entertainment options in the area, I think this can be an even better hotel.
Stay if you need a safe place but don't expect a 5-star experience.
