While Culiacan might not be a great place to visit, if you happen to be here this is a great place to stay.

Clean and gated facility. Rooms are large and comfortable. Very nice dining options within the hotel or just outside of it. Staff was courteous and English ready as well.

We chose this hotel based on the high ratings on TA. I was grateful for the secure parking, and the friendly staff that were able to quickly assist us and spoke English with us. There were a LOT of international travelers inside. We heard many languages being spoken.

After spending a luxurious few days in Puerto Vallarta, I felt a little claustrophobic inside our King-size room (my spouse was making fun of me for being spoiled in PV). In all my travels of staying in hotels in Mexico, this Hotel Lucerna had THE MOST comfortable bed I have ever slept in. For this alone, I would consider returning if need be.

The bathroom had hair in the bathtub and hair stuck to the towels and handcloths. I don't complain about this but make mental notes. I understand it's natural for hair to fall when we are home, and why do we get disgusted at hotels, especially when they are "the best in town". It's gross, and just one of those things.

After checking in after our long drive and eating dinner next door at Cayenna (delicious!) we went for a stroll to the mall. That was a nice safe stroll and great distraction for the remainder of the evening.

Never stayed there. But visited the moorish like bar (Mezzosole) in the lower lobby, next to the pool and gardens. Wonderful place and great service. Just aside the north river bank. Beautiful view and very green enviroment. I don't have a clue where "liveinmexico" went but the city is pleasant, several outstanding loci and easy to get around. Summer-autumn are very warm, though.

Lucerna is overall GREAT hotel with large well decorated rooms and a beautiful garden/pool area in the back. It is very centrally located. However Culiacan is not a pretty city to visit, so unless you have to go, don't go.
PS: There was a great sea food restaurant just in front of the hotel (a little bit to the left). I can't remember the name, but they will know it at the reception desk.

Room Tip: My room smelled a little bit of cigarettes, be sure you ask for a non smoking room.

Very nice staff, everyone spoke great English and went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. I ate in the restaurant one night and the food was good, service great. The bar is nice, good bartenders. Rooms are above average, Hampton / Holiday Inn Express quality. Beautiful patio and pool. Grounds and lobby are immaculate and well cared for. Starbucks across the street, as well several restaurants of good quality. Very nice shopping mall right next door.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the pool, it will also face the river and park.

I went to Culiacan with a elderly neighbor who was going there for Chemo therapy. We stayed at the Lucerna. Everything was wonderful. The beds are very comfortable. The staff were so attentive & helpful to my friend. The only complaint was about the weather! It was cooler than normal, & there was no heat only a/c in the rooms! But we just snuggled in the nice down duvet! We are going back again this weekend.

Room Tip: South facing rooms might have been a little warmer.

Let's not mince words. Most international travelers take safety into consideration when traveling, and when going to Culiacan, that concern moves up a level or two. I had business in Culiacan, and I visited the Lucerna. Part of the reason was to consider the hotel for other travelers. The factors of concern were: security, comfort, contemporaneity, atmosphere. This is an up to date hotel with more than the usual amenities. If one wants to stay right in the hotel, there is "everything" there. Good food, entertainment, pool, recreation. It's spacious, friendly, well-located. Yes, it's secure. The security personnel are alert, present, and very discreet. Not to worry if you are wanting to impress clients or family. This is where I'll stay on my next visit.

Room Tip: I'd want a room facing the interior and pool area
