My boyfriend and I spent 5 nights at the SPSF in April. Our little rental car managed the dirt road from the highway fairly well, but we drove very carefully (about 3-4 KM, lots of pot holes- be careful!).
After having spent 11 nights camping, it seemed very luxurious to ous. Our room was spacious, and there was lots of outdoor space to sort our camping gear. The only 'complaints' we had about the room were that the bathroom was quite small (room for one only) and that the only radio was the alarm clock. But ,considering we had lived without electricity and used a plastic bin as our toilette for the previous week and a half, we weren't put out at all...Andy, our host, and his dog pack (Chico, Tom, Izzy and 'Limpy'), greeted us when we arrived. They were all very hospitable. We spent the evening sitting on the patio, overlooking the Pacific, watching the sun set. We had planned on going surfing, but ended up just hanging around, reading books on the hammock, walking along the miles of beach, and driving into to Todo Santos. FYI- the beach in front of the SPSF is for experienced surfers only, but there is a beach a few KM away that is more suitable for beginners. Andy can hook you up with lessons if you want. Andy gave us tips on where to get the best fish, which we cooked up for dinner on his BBQ and the most secluded beaches.

SPSF is about a 15-20 minute drive to Todo Santos, which we visited on a couple of occasions and loved (if you are there, make sure to visit Felix at Cafelix for a coffee and sandwhich), and about 90 minutes to Cabo San Lucas, which we were glad to leave.

The SPSF is not luxurious but is very comfortable, with a range a rooms (I think there are 8 in total). The kitchen and BBQ helped us save money and allowed us to drink while having dinner without having to worry about getting home. If you want to relax and watch the waves, this has got to be one of the best places to do so in Baja. If you want night cubs and and chaos, checkout Cabo!

We have been to Mexico several times, but this was one of the best! We stayed at the San Pedrito Surf Hotel near Todos Santos, which I found here on tripadvisor.
We arrived in San Jose around 5pm so we knew we’d be a little late for check - in, but not as late as we were. With a stop at Costco, road construction, the cattle blocking traffic, and getting lost looking for our friends rental, it took us a good 5 hours to get to the hotel. But once we heard the waves we knew we’d love this place. The hotels friendly host Andy was there to meet us, and showed us to our room. While we were settling in, one of the property dogs greeted us at our door to say goodnight, which was just what we needed as we left our dog back home and missed him dearly.

Here are some highlights of our trip:

The room: We stayed in casita #6,which is a studio plenty large enough for two of us. It has a 4 drawer dresser, tile floors, and many hooks to hang towels/wetsuits/swimsuits on, a king-sized pillowtop bed (super comfy, unusual in Mexico), small kitchen with a full sized refrigerator (needed for all the food/beer), a stove top, sink, coffee maker, and dishes. The bathroom is shared with casita #5, but wasn’t a problem. We had one small window, which overlooked the empty lot nextdoor and the dirt road, but you could still easily hear the waves all night long. We would definitely stay in this casita again.

The property: IT IS RIGHT ON THE BEACH! There are 6 or 7 casitas on this property. I did not see inside any of the other casitas, but my boyfriend did, I believe a two bedroom one on the second floor of a two level building. He said it was pretty amazing. There is a common area with board games, a pool table, books, and binoculars (which I didn’t see until the day we were leaving, and would have loved to watch the whales with them, oh well). Outside there is a BBQ, a couple of tables, and several chairs perfectly placed to have an evening cocktail and watch the sunset with the silhouettes of the whales breeching, and the surfers catching waves. We called this “Cocktail Hour” with the other guests on the property, where we talked about our day, and plans for the night, super fun!

The host: Andy... what can I say... he has it all. From the moment we stepped on the property, until the time we left, he was very accommodating. He recommended many awesome “gringo friendly” places to shop, eat, and drink. We loved the place in Pescadero with the best fish tacos we’ve ever had (it has a Big Boy Burger statue out front). Andy was a super chill guy, which kept the atmosphere at the hotel very comfortable, just our style.

We absolutely loved the San Pedrito Surf Hotel, and definitely will be back!

Tips: Rent a truck, or Jeep, the road to the hotel is very bumpy because of recent floods in the area. Grab some groceries before you go to the hotel, it’s about a 30 minute dive to Todos Santos, and once your at the hotel, it’s hard to leave. Don’t forget your surfboard!

San Pedrito Surf Hotel is amazing. The surf break out front is very fun, and the beach is incredibly beautiful. Andy, the manager, is a great guy who takes good care of you. It is by no means luxury; everything you need is there, but it is not sumptuous. Easy 15 minute drive to Todos Santos. They should open a little bar on the property that makes quesadillas; be aware that there are no services there - you can't buy a coke without driving out to the road, so don't expect room service. No TV, but good cell phone and data coverage for US carriers (verizon and t-mobile).

“A relaxing piece of Baja Heaven”

San Pedrito Surf Hotel

Feb 5, 2008

We defied the instructions and headed for the place in the pitch black night as we were delayed with the flight. We had downloaded the map and instructions to the place and were NOT dissappointed...got there first shot. Andy, the local manager was toooo much. Always a help but never in your face , more than eager to give you some local knowledge and very interesting. We spent a fabulous 9 days kicking back and really having a great relax. Accomodations are clean, neat and you can cook your own meals nicely. A 5 minute walk up to the break at the point and the World Class Surfing is there. NO rush and loudness like the bigger resorts at Cabo.

If you want a real relaxer.....San Pedrito Surf Hotel is the place to go.

Terrific host. Simple bare accommodations with all the necessities. Friendly dogs. Great! (yes, GREAT!) beach, surf heaven if you're a surfer. Perfect if you want to be away from it all.
