The best seafood dining experience in San Felipe can be found at La Vaquita's restaurant located at the end of Puerto Penasco street on Ave Mar de Cortez Norte. This place is a landmark with live music from local musicians on select nights and weekends. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor patio dining, so you can people watch while sipping one of their Margarita Grandes sharing one of their sumptuous appetizers. You'll always be greeted by the friendly smiles of their staff, especially Jorge and Franciso, longtime waiters at this popular restaurant.
My husband, Tom, always orders their Campachana Grande (without oysters) for 140 pesos or about $11.95 USD. He says it's the best Champachana in the world! I always order their Steamed Clams appetizer (20 fresh local clams for $4 USD). Last time, I added an orderrf their Garlic Grilled Seabass Plate (locally caught Corbina) for 95 pesos or $8.00. Yummy. I can highly recommend their Fish Taco Plate for 65 pesos with three ample fresh fish tacos, rice, beans and lots of daily made salsa and chips. Sometimes I would splurge and order their mixed Seafood Volcano (at 180 pesos or $15 USD) which is absolutely fabulous and large enough to split. We lived in San Felipe for a year and frequented this restaurant a lot, so I can speak with great authority about the consistency of the food and service here. Currently, I live in the Palm Springs area and we have to drive 38-40 miles to Indio's El Mexicali Cafe to find food this good but at much higher prices and without the Sea of Cortez. If you're ever in San Felipe, go to La Vaquita's and tell them Jackie and Tom sent you! Enjoy.
