All travel presents opportunities for adventure and discovery, but every now and then it also includes delightful surprises. On a recent trip to the Baja, I stumbled upon a delightful little inn in Loreto, Baja Sur, Mexico. Besides the welcome and hospitality offered to two very cold and road-weary travellers (a hot shower and plenty of thick, cosy towels), our room was the most comfortable and thoughtfully appointed of any I have stayed in, on three continents. The inn itself is small, only 5 rooms, but the ambiance and charm is tremendous. In addition to being furnished with locally-produced objects, the inn itself has been decorated with colours and accents that enhance the feeling of being in a graceful home in Old Mexico. Rather than feeling like I could have been anywhere in the world once I entered my room, I felt like I was actually in the heart of the Baja. I plan on returning to this part of the world, and booking another stay at La Damiana Inn, as soon as I possibly can.
