“Top notch Innkeepers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

This was our fourth time here. Jill and Rick make you feel right at home.
They have been there 10 years and know all resources available.
If you want to fish or dive or birdwatch they know were to direct you.
you can also just lay by the pool and plan dinner.
This place is a great getaway to recharge your batteries.
It does not take long to feel like a local here.
I hope to revisit in the fall.

As a first time visitor, I'm so very glad we choose Las Cabanas to stay. We thought about renting in Nopolo Village (more of a resort experience and maybe good for families as we didn't see many kids in town) but it is not convenient to town. You would definitely need a car to drive 25 mins each way (too far/hot to bike) and we would have missed out on a great local experience/ adventures. Having the free bikes available was great and you didn't have to worry about traveling at night to get anywhere because everything was within walking/biking distance. The variety of restaurants and access to the marina made it easy to decide last minute to do something. The afternoon Happy Hours at Augies which are right around the corner (go on Weds as their chocolate clams are to die for!) and best of all, the Cabanas are so quiet & restful where the hosts have anticipated what you need to make your visit memorable. We stayed in the Sailfish at the recommendation for another Trip Advisor poster and I thank them! We each had our own queen bed, so nice to spread out. It think the other 3 rooms had a queen & a twin. Bathroom is nice and big. I think you can fit at least 4 people in that shower!! The milk and goodies in the frig were much appreciated as you didn't have to rush out for groceries right way. Convenient to have the pool with shade to cool off in/read by as the beach in town is not that great (hot black sand & rocky until you get past the marina. Also it is a 15-min walk carrying all your stuff and not good if you forgot something. I wish we could have stayed longer than 6 days so we could have tried their cooking class;sounded so fun. If you need to rent a car, use Fox which is nearby, cleaner and had better rates than the others, plus you can rent downtown and return it at the airport with no extra charge. Just let them know and ask what time they are at the airport to return it. We had to wait 10 mins but not a big deal. We rented the last 2 days we were there so we could drive to San Javier/see around town and save ourselves the $20 shuttle fee back to the airport. Lastly, recommend Adrian & his boat which Jill can arrange. We split the cost with another couple and saw rays flying out of the water, at least 50 leaping dolphins, and even a whale even though it wasn't whale season.

Room Tip: If you are a large couple, you may want the Sailfish which has 2 queens. Can't put them together...

I've enjoyed visiting Loreto since the early '70's but never more than our latest visit earlier this year - because of our stay at Las Cabanas. From the moment we arrived Jill and Richard made us feel not only part of their own adopted Loreto family but part of the community itself. Their recommendations were spot on - from restaurants to bird, fishing, and whale watching guides. We were fortunate enough to be able to share our fishing catch with the other guests (never will forget the amazing Tres Leches cake Jill brought to the BBQ). The property itself is splendid, from the welcoming rooms to the immaculate pool area. We took several walks after sunset and felt very safe in the neighborhood. If you're looking for a Baja destination that will provide you with a true sense of place, Las Cabanas will not disappoint.

Room Tip: There truely are no bad rooms at Las Cabanas.

Love Las Cabanas so much, we've already visited them a second time. Not only is the location great near the malecon, but it is so private. The courtyard is wonderful including a pool, hot tub, fire pit, and huge outdoor kitchen for guests to use. The rooms are brightly painted with refrigerators stocked with breakfast/snack foods for you! Be sure and checkout the gorgeous photography by the owner. I purchased calendars and cards. The property only has 4 rooms, so it is always quiet!

Las Cabanas is a great place to stay. It was our first trip to Loreto and we weren't sure what to do or how to arrange it. Jill handled it all! The room was great and they took great care to clean it well! Jill and Rick seemed more like friends than hosts. The grounds are very well kept and we LOVED the people we met there. We were able to tour Coronado island with some fellow guests and share the expenses...(Arranged by Jill). Don't miss the chance to take the Mexican cooking class either! Every recommendation for places to eat was spot on and we can't wait to come back.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Dorado room. Great location with great view of the pool and palapas right outside...

If you want to get away from big resorts and loud hotels but still be centrally located, Las Cabanas is the place to stay. The whole area feels like home, its tough to get that feeling away from home. Except my home doesn't have a hot tub and is not adjacent to a beautiful harbor with gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. My stay at Las Cabanas was memorable and will always be memorable as I got married during my stay. Jill and her mom Linda played important roles in helping plan my special day. Linda made a wonderful location suggestion for the reception and ceremony. If I could go back and do it all over again I wouldn't change a thing except maybe extend my stay. Loreto is a great town, but the genuine people of Loreto make the place a true gem. Thank you Linda, Jill & Richard for being genuine, attentive and detail oriented hosts.

P.S. Richard is a great photographer, samples of his beautiful nature photos are beautifully displayed in every guest room.

Cabanas is a delightful place to stay. The rooms are very charming and comfortable with great regional decor and photographs. The grounds are exquisite with a great hot tub and pool surrounded by palms. The whale skulls are the finishing touch!
The hosts go out of there way to provide you everything needed for your adventures out to the Sea of Cortez and beyond. The place is fully stocked with day excursion gear for boat and beach going. Highly recommended!
