As a first time visitor, I'm so very glad we choose Las Cabanas to stay. We thought about renting in Nopolo Village (more of a resort experience and maybe good for families as we didn't see many kids in town) but it is not convenient to town. You would definitely need a car to drive 25 mins each way (too far/hot to bike) and we would have missed out on a great local experience/ adventures. Having the free bikes available was great and you didn't have to worry about traveling at night to get anywhere because everything was within walking/biking distance. The variety of restaurants and access to the marina made it easy to decide last minute to do something. The afternoon Happy Hours at Augies which are right around the corner (go on Weds as their chocolate clams are to die for!) and best of all, the Cabanas are so quiet & restful where the hosts have anticipated what you need to make your visit memorable. We stayed in the Sailfish at the recommendation for another Trip Advisor poster and I thank them! We each had our own queen bed, so nice to spread out. It think the other 3 rooms had a queen & a twin. Bathroom is nice and big. I think you can fit at least 4 people in that shower!! The milk and goodies in the frig were much appreciated as you didn't have to rush out for groceries right way. Convenient to have the pool with shade to cool off in/read by as the beach in town is not that great (hot black sand & rocky until you get past the marina. Also it is a 15-min walk carrying all your stuff and not good if you forgot something. I wish we could have stayed longer than 6 days so we could have tried their cooking class;sounded so fun. If you need to rent a car, use Fox which is nearby, cleaner and had better rates than the others, plus you can rent downtown and return it at the airport with no extra charge. Just let them know and ask what time they are at the airport to return it. We had to wait 10 mins but not a big deal. We rented the last 2 days we were there so we could drive to San Javier/see around town and save ourselves the $20 shuttle fee back to the airport. Lastly, recommend Adrian & his boat which Jill can arrange. We split the cost with another couple and saw rays flying out of the water, at least 50 leaping dolphins, and even a whale even though it wasn't whale season.
