“Paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

My husband and I just spent 11 incredible days at Las Cabanas de Loreto on our first trip to Mexico. We chose Las Cabanas de Loreto based solely on the reviews from fellow TA's. I cannot thank you all enough.

This place is amazing! Rick, Jill, and her parents welcome you warmly to the most perfect and comfortable retreat in the middle of paradise. Our cabana had all the comforts of home, with yummy, homemade granola, coffee and fresh fruit waiting for us. The cabanas are casual and intimate, nestled in a gorgeous garden oasis. The setting is ideal for relaxing and laying around the pool reading. The outdoor kitchen is fully equipped for preparing your own meals or there are many wonderful restaurants within walking distance. Exploring the town is easy from their location, either by foot or with bicycles available to use.

Jill is the ultimate hostess and made so many wonderful memories possible for us on this trip. It seemed that we would mention wanting to do something and Jill would present us with the opportunity. One of the unexpected surprises of our trip was sharing the expense of a couple of boat tours with other guests. It enabled us to see and do more than we had dreamed of. We also shared a short hiking trip and a dirt road quest to a fabulous 5 star restaurant.

We came home completely relaxed and renewed, hearts foverflowing with gratitude and happy memories from the trip of a lifetime. We are already planning and looking forward to our next Loreto adventure at Las Cabanas de Loreto.
Mucho Gracias, Tom & Jacqueline

Las Cabanas de Loreto is a peaceful place to stay whilst in Loreto. We stayed for one week and were made very welcome by Jill, Rick and their parents. The Cabanas were clean and well kitted out for us with a substantial welcome pack of essentials. The gardens, pool and hot tub were in pristine condition. We accompanied Rick - a wild life photographer on two amazing whale watching trips around the nearby islands and drove across to Puerto Mateos on the Pacific side to see the grey whales with their young. Plenty of great places to eat nearby. At the moment there is quite a bit of regeneration going on but it did not spoil our enjoyment of this delightful, authentic Mexican town.

We stayed at Las Cabanas for four nights recently and were treated to an absolutely amazing experience. From the moment we checked in, Jill & Rick went out of their way to ensure we felt welcome. The grounds and pool area are very inviting and immaculate, and our room was so well equipped we felt like moving in! Not only was there welcome beer in the fridge, but some yummy home made granola, some fresh fruit, milk, and even microwave popcorn! A fully stocked library of books and dvd's were also available, along with snorkel gear, wetsuits, and even coolers and ice for picnics! Jill happily arranged a boat and driver for a tour of Coronado island - where we saw dolphins, sea lions, and tons of bird life. Jill saved us $$ by connecting us with another couple of guests that also wanted to go boating, so we were impressed! Another day, Jill accompanied us and other guests to a fantastic beach restaurant and a little tour through the "outback"! Happy hour mingling with other guests, a chance to sample sublime seafood caught that day, super comfortable beds, great hosts, stunning setting - we'll be back!

This was our first time in Loreto and even though the malecon right outside the hotel was being worked on we had an amazing time in Loreto! Jill and Rick are incredible! Even though Jill was sick she managed to arrange for a tour for us to see the whales on the Pacific which was quite a feat in January! We are not tour people but the outfit that she arranged for us was amazing (Vive Loreto). We also took 2 trips to Coronado Island which Jill and Rick arranged...amazing (as was Adrian who was our captain)! Rick is an incredible wildlife photographer he took the time to show us his studio and show us the slideshow of some of his photos...we ended up purchasing quite a few to ship home. All in all an incredible experience. We will definitely return to Loreto and stay at the cabanas when we return!

The hosts where fantastic, an American Family, every detail was thought of at the facility, from how the plants are laid out to the all the items to use in the room. It was gorgeous, right off the water and a easy walk to town. Just around the corner on the water is an American Bar called Augies, that had great happy hours every night and great people to talk to. Loreto is still a very laid back Mexican town, easy to get around walking or on the bicycles that the hosts provide. Felt very safe at all times. A truly relaxing vacation.

The location is GREAT!! This was our first time staying at a cabaña where the proprietors cared so much and truly wanted to enhance our vacation experience! What FUN!! From the day we checked in and were invited to a welcome happy hour to meet the neighbors, to potlucking, road tripping and the attention to details, we were so spoiled! I don't know if I want to go back to being anonymous at some big hotel. Such a fabulous time -- I recommend Las Cabañas to Everyone!! We miss you, Rick & Jill!!
PS: Everything was so clean and safe -- no worries. Can't wait to return! =]

How do I begin.........

We arrived in Loreto in late December, 2012 for a 2 night stay. We chose Las Cabanas de Loreto based on the great recommendations from other TA users, and we were not disappoinited. This place is AWESOME.

Las Cabanas de Loreto is owned by Jill and Rick Jackson, Americans who moved to Loreto 10 years ago. Rick is a well-known nature photographer, and his work is all over the city of Loreto. Jill is hostess extraordinaire - from the minute we arrived to the minute we left, we felt like her main goal was to make us happy and comfortable.

The Facilities - This place is located 1 block behind the Malecon (30 second walk) in a strategic location in the heart of Loreto. Imagine a massive, beautiful home built around a courtyard and pool, with 4 large suites facing the pool. The pool is small but nice, and the jacuzzi is HOT and perfect after a busy day of activities. There is a large outdoor kitchen (and barbecue) which would make any gourmet chef happy. There is a garage full of bikes for guests to explore Loreto at their leisure. There is Wi-Fi throughout.

The Rooms - The rooms are large, with comfy King beds and nice sheets and pillows. The window shades actually block out the light (unlike so many other hotels). The bathrooms were great, with nice towels, good shower and plenty of space. The room comes with a mini-kitchen, small fridge, microwave oven, dishes and utensils, a coffee maker (with coffee). A lot of little extras like popcorn, cookies, bottled water, etc. There was milk, yogurt and homemade granola in the fridge for breakfast. There were also 2 cold beers in the fridge which went down quickly after a long road trip!

Attention to detail - this is what separates Las Cabanas from the rest of imitators. Staying here was like staying at a close friend's house, and everything you even wanted or needed was there for you. From the coffee maker and breakfast, to the bikes, to the recommendations and booking of activities for guests.....it was all there. When we booked a boat excursion one day (a must do), there was snorkeling gear, a cooler and beach chairs outside our room door. When we asked about dinner options, Jill and Rick walked us to the restaurant and stayed and had dinner with us. When I mentioned that I loved clams, they magically appeared for me - already shucked and ready to eat.

I could go on, but I think you get the point. This place is fantastic, and so are Jill and Rick. We were sad to leave this place, and will definitely come back.....hopefully sooner than later.

Room Tip: All rooms are great in this place.
