“Fantastic location, nice owners”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

You cannot beat the location of this tiny two-room hotel adjoining the popular 1697 restaurant. It's located in the northeast corner of the main Plaza overlooking the bandstand, where you can s patio and watch it on your veranda and watch the world go by. Both Loreto Centro and the malecon are just blocks away. Secure private parking behind the hotel. They take credit cards. Even though the room was right on the plaza we felt very safe. The rooms were simple but clean with nice touches including a safe, sky TV, firm bed (but rough sheets), AC (not needed in March when we were here), ceiling fan, mini fridge, fluffy towels, ample hot water. Bring your own toiletries, though, they only provide hand soap. Also, although there was an area by the bathroom sink to hang (short) clothes, there was no armoire or dresser in which to put clothes. Not a problem if you are only there for a few days.

We were here on a Sunday and Monday, and it was very quiet except during dinner hour (adjoining restaurant closes at 10 pm). However, I cannot vouch for sleep quality on weekends or fiesta days as the room is right on the plaza.

The internet was unpredictable. we were in room 8 which is farther from the restaurant that bears the same name. the room next to us (9) closer to the restaurant had a better signal and since it was unoccupied, the staff gave us a small table and chairs to put on the patio of that unit for better internet access.

Kieran, Norma, their staff and friendly Yellow Labrador Bolt made us feel very welcome. We would definitely stay here again, and will probably do so in May on our way back up the peninsula to the States.

Room Tip: If internet is an issue, Room 9 has better signal.

Loved staying here. Nice clean rooms and really pretty. Simple but charming. We enjoyed the location because we could walk everywhere in town. The restaurant attached to the hotel serves the best salads and pizza. Everything about our stay was super pleasant.

We stopped here when travelling to Loreto with relatives. The owners are pals with the La Luna hotel, so as we were 3 couples and la Luna was full, we were were lodged at Hotel 1697.
The rooms were clean and located just of the main square. The location is handy for cafes and has a charming restaurant.
We were helped by Alberto the owner of La Luna to find a "handy boatman" to take us into the Marine national park. The two trips we made were fantastic, we saw Blue whales, , sea lions, and hundreds of dolphins.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms, both are good and have verandas.

Stopped in looking for a room on our road trip down the Baja. (highly recommended).
Staff was great, the hotel has two rooms, very clean, nice patio out front looking out on the main square.
Met the owners, very friendly, also met their yellow lab, nice dog.
If you stay here, check out their restaurant, very, very good and reasonable.
Loreto is a very pretty little town, alot of work is being down on the malecon, makes a nice walk along the water.
i would stay here again for a few days on another road trip to explore around loreto.

Room Tip: you have a choice of two rooms, either one is nice

The room was very nice good size and super clean, nicely renovated. The room has a great patio just on the corner of the square. Our hosts were very friendly we ended up there for a couple of nights. Good internet access as well. I would recommend it.

1697 currently has only two rooms but it makes up for it's small size in character! It is only steps away from (in my opinion) the two most lovely spots in Baja - down town Loreto and the Loreto Malecon. 1697 has a sort of European "Pension" feel to it, because the rooms have private patios and look out onto the main plaza of Loreto. You can drink your morning coffee or sip your evening margarita while watching the "comings and goings" of Loreto. It's a perfect spot for couples, and/or single travelers, who want privacy, but also want to be close to the heart and activity of Loreto. Truly - this spot is super cozy, comfortable, and charming.

Room Tip: Both rooms are excellent!
