“Perfect Place to Stay in Loreto”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

We just returned from a week stay at El Tiburon Casitas. We can’t imagine a better place to stay in Loreto. The Casitas are quiet, clean, comfortable, and just a short walk from the Malecon, square and local attractions. Liz has obviously put a lot of effort into making the Casitas special, from the beautiful murals on the walls to the decorations in the rooms to the bikes available for guest to use. She and Ivan were a great help providing information about local tours, restaurants, and activities. We went on two very enjoyable tours with Ivan, one of which he arranged for us at the last minute when our plans changed unexpectedly. Thank you Liz and Ivan for making our stay in Loreto so friendly and enjoyable!

Loved staying here. Each of the four casitas has a different layout and design; Liz has put a tremendous amount of thought into making them comfortable. Lots of towels and places to hang them. Lots of space for clothes. Big kitchen with everything you need if you want to cook fresh fish from the local market. Very comfortable beds. Everything immaculate. Although each casita is spacious, private, and self contained, they are all set around a central patio. BBQ, pool area where you can hang out with Liz and the other guests if you want. There a many adventures to be had in Loreto -- fishing, kayaking, snorkeling with sea lions, a mule trip to the ranches hidden in the mountains -- and this is a great place to find out about or book all of them. Liz also has a great perspective on Baja and I loved talking to her about all kinds of things. Oh yes, the location is also perfect. Quiet and central. I'll definitely be back.

Just returned from first ever trip to Loreto. Very glad to have stayed at Liz's casitas.
Ivan fixed us a lovely meal , featuring a fish caught on a boating excursion, on our last night.
I wish we'd allowed more time here. The property is comfortable, well appointed, safe, clean, and so conveniently located. Thankyou Liz, for creating such a nice place.

Thank You for your wonderful comments. We are so fortunate to have this great location and I am so pleased you liked the decor and personal touches in the Casitas. I do hope your next trip will be for a longer period so you can have more seafood meals by Ivan and enjoy more of our lovely, safe town of Loreto.

These individual Casitas are perfectly located near the beach and marina in a safe area of central Loreto. And although every Mexican small town is plagued by dogs and roosters, these casitas are nestled behind thick compound walls and are set back a block from the noisy Malecon traffic, so that was not an issue at all like it is in the malecon and beachfront Hotels.
Liz, the owner/manager was always around and very helpful in suggesting places to eat and shop (La Picazon was our favorite restaurant). Ivan, the assistant manager and cook arranged a snorkel excursion to Coronado Island with a Mexican captain and then helped us rent a car from the local agency so we could visit areas outside of Loreto . Ivan's services were free but he is available to go along with you as a bilingual guide for a modest fee and he cooked up a delicious fish and shrimp dinner by the pool for 15 dollars a person.
Lots of details make these Casitas worth the price- safe parking, free Bikes, nice linens and pool towels, beautiful custom tile and decorations throughout, newly upgraded Wi Fi, and everything you will need in the kitchen such as wineglasses, toothpicks, napkins and paper towels, etc.
It was easy to see why El Tiburon Casitas is a 2013 Travelers' Choice Hotel!

My wife and I made stayed one week at El Tiburon. The location can't be beat, just 2-3 short blocks for the town square and the boardwalk. Our room was very clean and comfortable, with a well organized kitchen. El Tiburon consists of a handful of individual casitas that surround a covered patio and pool area. Liz lives within the same 'compound' in her home. It is easy to meet other guests as everyone ends up chatting around the patio.

Liz was not in Loreto during most of our visit, but Ivan was always available. As mentioned in other reviews, Ivan can cook for you, or arrange trips and tours for guests. He does charge a fee, usually paid to him by the tour operator, but for many folks this removes the need to do this work yourself. We liked Ivan, but we certainly felt his attitute towards us change when he realized that we were arranging our own trips and tours.

The beds were comfortable, but everyone should realize that in a small fishing town like Loreto, there a lot of dogs and chickens. You will hear barking and crowing, but it really is not a problem if you run the room fan to drown out the noise.

This was our first trip to Loreto, but most of the other guests had been at El Tiburon many times. With so many return guests, you can see evidence that Liz has really created a special place.

Like so many other guests, we hope to return soon!

Thank You for your thoughtful, positive review. I have tried to create a special place and am happy you could appreciate our attention to details and our clean well appointed casitas. We do hope you will return like many of our guests who make lifelong friends here in our private garden and pool area. I am only away from the Casitas 4 weeks a year so I am sorry one of those weeks was during your stay. It is important to me that EVERY guest feels welcome at all times so I will be sure our over enthusiastic Ivan understands this also! Tours are arranged for our guests with no added commission (unless Ivan goes along as the guide). He loves to take the guests on outings with the Mexican tour operators as the bilingual guide and show them additional secret places in Loreto and the surrounding mountains! I do appreciate the feedback so that I can be sure all employees are trained properly. Liz Bracken/ Owner/General Manager

We were a party of ten from various cold climates. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Casitas. Liz and Ivan were so helpful and friendly, it was effortless to set up our activities and meals. The location is very convenient to everything you can want. We felt safe and comfortable at all times, even when walking around at night. All the locals wave and greet you with "holas". We would certainly consider another stay here.

We are so glad you family of 10 was comfortable here. Your family was so talented, diverse,
and friendly! Ivan and I had a great time helping you all get on tours and see the sights.
This was a family that really gets along and was really nice to see that!
We can accommodate groups of 10-14 and this way the group has the run of house
and we can serve special family style meals and offer significant discounts.
We hope you will come back and bring the whole family again!

We recently stayed at El Tiburon Casitas for 12 days. We rented two of the casitas and found them to be in impeccable condition, with comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchens, and wifi. We originally were going to spend some of our vacation in Mulege, but had to cancel that part of the trip at literally the last minute due to damage from Hurricane Paul. Liz went out of her way to help rearrange our trip and extend our stay in Loreto at El Tiburon Casitas. Her manager, Ivan, took us on two expeditions into the mountains for desert hikes and pictograph viewing. He also cooked us a gourmet birthday dinner one evening. We flew down with our folding sea kayaks and Ivan was also very helpful in showing us good locations for paddling and snorkeling. We had a great time at El Tiburon Casitas and will certainly be returning.

We are very glad you had a great vacation in Loreto! Mulege tends to always get more damage from storms than Loreto does. I see you only gave us 3 stars for value. But you did notice the good WiFI ad impeccable conditions of our Casitas which is expensive to maintain, along with a heated pool. So for about 90 dollars a night for 2 persons, that is the best we can do given the level of service we provide and the extra amenities like complimentary bikes, full book and movie library. Loreto is not the cheapest place to stay in Baja but the weather, marine park, food, and fishing make it a stellar destination!
