“Loved everything about it -- I would return to La Paz just to stay here again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2011

CasaBuena is excellent all around. I could not recommend it more highly.

My wife and I have travelled around the world (Russia, Scandinavia, Africa, Europe) and we always look for a certain type of place to stay -- not too frilly or uppity, flexible and rustic, engrossed in the culture (rather than only people like us around), good price, and yet very clean and comfortable with good bathrooms and kitchen (where possible).

Hmm, how to summarize that with one phrase: legit launchpad? Real and rock solid? Immersed and impressive? All of it applies to CB.

CasaBuena is in my top five places and I would return to La Paz just to stay here again.

Room Tip: All rooms are equally excellent.

Eight of us from Chicago stayed at Casabuena in May 2011 for five nights. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well-stocked. The ppol was refreshing, and the entire property is well-kept. To top it all off, Milton and his family are amazing and generous people. It's as if you are staying with old friends. Would definitely stay there again!

As other reviews have said, Casabuena is exactly as they advertise on their website. Great value, no frills B&B with dogs and kids roaming the property that is owned and operated by an American family. This not in the style of a B&B in someone's house, It's a compound, I like to call, the Mexican Melrose Place. Your room is an apartment. There are several apartment style rooms that surround a courtyard with a Palapa communal kitchen building with TV and internet. Our room was complete with a kitchen, air conditioning and bathroom. Rooms are very traditional Mexican living, tile floors, no TV, no hairdryer. Windows don't have screens so you will have some bugs. If you can't deal with this or the dogs barking and kids playing, this is not your place. It is also only a few blocks from the start of the Malecon and main La Paz area by the bay in the residential area. Therefore, there is residential noise occasionally, from parties and such. You're in their town, deal with it. Because of the secure gated compound and their large dogs, we felt very safe... you really don't have to worry about theft and you can park your car inside the compound. The family that runs the place lives in a house on the back of the compound and are always available for great conversation and advise on all La Paz. If you are an avid traveler and looking for a safe inexpensive place to stay, complete with a light breakfast, I highly recommend Casabuena, especially to women traveling alone. If you are looking for a resort where they wait on you hand & foot and your room is white glove clean, this is not it.

Room Tip: Make a reservation.

Good Day fellow travellers:
My wife and I have returned to Vancouver Island after touring the Baja. We only had six weeks and we stayed at La Paz for 28 days. I have just hung up the tel after speaking to a friend, seems they could not wait to get back from Mexico, free house, good community and such, but they were bored. At the Casa Buena B&B we met so many good folks and I personally met people with such great stories I think from all the holidays I have had, this one has been the most interesting and fulfilling of all. Milton/Su Su and the children are them selves worth the visit. The large Palapa in which everyone ate was also a great attraction. All in all I now know that even though I go to other countries to meet people from the specific country, this is not what actually happens, the meeting of other travellers seems key.
Our next trip will be to Asia, we will search out accomodations which will be similair to the Casa Buena.

Other family members have highlighted the many benefits of Casabuena for a family vacation. As mother of the groom, I want Milton & Susu to know how much I appreciate that we were able to host such a memorable Rehearsal Party. The palapa is a wonderful gathering place they have created for guests to use. Next time we are in La Paz, Casabuena will definitely be our home base. Clean, comfortable, friendly and just a short drive to some amazing beaches.

Travelled with a large extended family group. Milton and Susu were excellent hosts and their insight to the local restaurants / activities is very helpful. Breakfast is provided and is pretty much a self serve of cereal / toast etc. Fresh muffins appeared each morning from Susu's kitchen ( which my three teenage boy's really appreciated !! ). Walking distance to most activities. We flew into Cabo and drove up to La Paz. This drive is a bit of an adventure to say the least !!! Would not attempt this drive at night so ensure you are coming during the daytime. Again if you are looking for the 5 star luxury resort this is not for you. If you are looking for a safe, clean and affordable option look no farther than here. Thanks again Milton and Susu

Stayed with extended family - took six to 8 rooms for most of a week. The location is terrific - walking distance to water, downtown, grocery store, etc. The rooms were large and ours had 2 beds, private washroom with shower, fridge, stove, table. The entire place is surrounded by 7-10 ft walls giving both security and privacy. The central Palapa was wonderful for us to gather in. The private pool and sitting area was a great place to take in the fantastic La Paz sun. Milton and Susu make you feel at home. The dogs/cat and rabbit are fun to have around, but don't get in the way. We were there for a wedding and this was the perfect place for us to stay.
If you are looking for 5 star accommodations, this isn't the choice for you. It's clean, comfortable and feels like home. It took about 5 minutes to relax and start enjoying our vacation. They had wireless all over which was convenient as we needed to stay in touch with the other members of the wedding party. I opened up my laptop and was immediately connected - very handy!! My only recommendation would be to bring a pillow as it seems that pillow's in Mexico are smaller and harder than North American's may be used to. Apart from that, book in for an extended stay and find out what the better part of life is supposed to be!
Thanks Milton and Susu for a wonderful week!!
