My review simply consists of the letter I just wrote to the hotel management. I am sure it speaks enough without more waffling commentary by me!
I'm writing to let you know about our stay at Posada De Las Flores in La Paz, a few weeks ago, on the nights of February 13 and 14. Although we enjoyed the rustic Mexican decor, we felt fairly upset with a few items, and would like to voice our concerns.
We had booked the Junior Suite with a king size bed. The room was spacious and comfortable, but had obviously just been painted, as the smell of fresh paint was very strong and distracting. The suite was supposed to include a kitchenette, yet the kitchen area was locked closed and when I asked about it, all the staff responded with was, "no, your kitchen is being renovated right now, so it's closed". I noticed that the room was very dark, yet each time I tried a light switch, the lamp didn't work. I called the front desk, and four hours later someone arrived to fix the three lamps. The mini-bar menu included spirits and wine, yet neither was in the refrigerator or on the counter! There was no such thing as room service, despite there being no promised mini-bar contents. We had booked the stay as a romantic Valentines getaway, and felt repeatedly disappointed with the "missing" things in the room. I was amazed that for a romantic holiday such as Valentines, we couldn't even get two glasses of wine! We were surprised at how unprepared everything felt.
That brings me to our next disappointment: The hotel advertised that the bar / lounge overlooking the ocean was open each evening, yet it didn't open either night we were there! It was a beautiful setting and we'd wanted to play cards, watch the sunset, and have some wine or a margarita. When we checked in to the hotel, we were told about the bar hours, yet when it mysteriously never opened and I asked about it, the staff said, "no, it's closed this week". We were extremely dismayed that we couldn't even have a glass of wine at our hotel!
We booked Posada De Las Flores because it looked like somewhere classy and beautiful that we could relax and enjoy a special getaway together. Overall we were very sad that we had to leave our hotel if we wanted anything, and were met with very little customer service and follow-through. We feel that if you were renovating the Junior Suite, then you shouldn't have booked it for us! If the bar wasn't going to open, we should have been told when we checked in! For a very expensive price of nearly $600 for two nights, your hotel certainly didn't deliver on many of it's promises.
We will be coming back to La Paz regularly, because my parents spend time there every winter... We'd been hoping to develop a relationship with a nice hotel that we could visit on each of our trips, but we won't return to Posada De Las Flores unless you compensate us with a future credit, or a partial refund for our stay. Please resolve the situation for us, as we understand that every business has "bad weeks" and we would like to give you a chance to make amends, and we'd like to be able to recommend you to our friends for future trips.
I will finish on a positive note: There was one evening staff member that seemed sincerely embarrassed by having to say "no, sorry" so many times, so when I enquired about ordering in some food from a nearby restaurant, he went the extra mile and helped me make the call, and when the restaurant said they didn't deliver, he said "no problem" to them, and informed me that he would send his colleague to pick it up for us! I was very pleased that he was so personally dedicated to making up for the hotel's inadequacies.
Overall, we would not return to Posada De Las Flores, based on our one time experience. However, we were very impressed by the artistic design and architecture, the breakfast was spectacular, and we feel that if things had been running properly, nearly all of our gripes would be negated. The formula is in place for a lovely hotel experience, but everything just seemed very poorly managed.
Hoping to hear back from you,
