I booked here based on all of the great reviews I found and was excited about the stay. We arrived at the El Posada Rey and were pleased with what we saw - a cute little motel in a good location with fun, authentic Mexican decor in the rooms. We were relieved and surprised to see how clean and nice it seemed... until a few hours later when we turned down the bed to find blood spots and streaks on the sheets!
We stripped the sheet to find that the blood (located in the midsection of the bed) had seeped through to the mattress cover underneath in the same place... meaning that this was fresh blood on an unchanged bed, rather than an old (but also gross) stain. Upon closer inspection, the sheets also had hair all over them. This disgusting bed had not been changed before we took occupancy. Rather, it was simply straightened up in hopes that we would never know.
We asked the front desk for fresh sheets. They didn't have any. He offered to give us a dirty old blanket to sleep on instead. Um, no thanks. They finally agreed to wash some sheets for us but we would have to change the bed ourselves since the housekeeping staff had gone home already. We returned to put our fresh sheets on the bed but they were the wrong size. Of course, none in the right size were available. I then insisted that they give us a new room with a clean bed and they begrudgingly agreed. Gave us keys to a new room and then 5 minutes later ran after us, frantically asking for the keys back because there was "something wrong with that room" (an excuse I can only interpret as that room wasn't properly cleaned either). We finally got keys for a third room and, thankfully, it was clean and without problem.
The rest of our stay was uneventful (other than our complimentary breakfast at the on-premises restaurant, El Osito, which was scary-dirty). Overall, we enjoyed the rest of the stay... until I got home and realized that they sneakily charged us an extra $20 for our second night without telling us! Our advertised rate of $86 per night somehow became $110 for the second night. After giving us a criminally dirty bed with fresh blood and being forced to change rooms, they had the nerve to charge us extra!
I would never, ever stay at this place again.
