Wonderful time in this out of the way hotel. Rooms were clean & tons of hot water. Hotel staff friendly & helpful. Stayed with out friends
before boarding our cruise ship. Port was just a few short blocks away. Rec'd acoupon for 1/2 price lunch at their local french rest., terrific Food. Happy hour at hotel was "FREE MARAGRITAS" for 1 hour. Barender was a "HOOT". Great breakfast the next morning, also included in the hotel price of only $76.00. Think I had a better time
in EnSenada then on my cruise!!!

We arrived in Ensenada after a very long drive. We were exhausted and just wanted to get checked in. We pulled in and I went to get us checked in. I was greated by Alberto at the front desk who was very helpful. He showed us where to park which was very secure on the hotel property (I was nervous about this on the way down to Mexico). He took us to our room which was a spacious queen size room with a fully stocked bar and shower ammentities. The prices were clearly posted for everything. He bidded us a goodnight and told us if we needed anything just call. We were just below the Cantina so we decided to go for a bite. Upon arriving we found the resturant empty except for a group of locals chatting it up over dominos. The lady who was a friend of the owner said he left for a few moment but would return quickly. She offered to get us some drinks and we gladly accepted. When Fernando the owner / bartender arrived we told him we were exhuasted and just wanted something easy and simple. He fixed us a plate of cheese and chorizo with some flour tortillas. It was awesome.
The next morning after a good night sleep (okay the bed was a bit hard but I also sleep on a super soft bed at home soooo.) we realized that we were right off Lopez Masteos. We walked to the end of the corner and were in the heart of the hustle and bustle of Ensenada. However our hotel was not on the main drag and was just close enough for comfort. We truly enjoyed staying at this hotel. There was plenty of hot water, ammenities, towels, TV, telephone ect. We will definately stay there again....I recommend staying here to anyone wanting to enjoy a weekend in Ensenada. PS. There are shuttles that will take you to the LaBufadora for $10.00 from Ensenada. Beware the prices in Bufadora are higher then in Ensenada...unless you like to barter I would recommend shopping in Ensenada. Take plenty of cash too. The ATM's charge 10.00 for withdrawl and very few places take Credit / Debit cards.

We stayed at the hotel on a busy weekend. It was the weekend of the Rosorita to Ensenada bike ride, which is a busy one. My travel plans were kind of sudden and they had a room available.

My wife and I stayed in a typical room. It was not real large, bed was a little on the small side, but did the trick. It was just the two of us and our bikes. Very moderatley priced, considering what was going on that weekend. Clean also.

The hotel sits less then a hundred yards off of the main strip in Ensenada which for me is good. You are away from all the car noise, bells and whistles and all the disco night club noise.

If you want to get a good night sleep, I didn't have any problems with this place. Ask for a 1st floor or second floor room in the middle or towards the rear of the hotel.

The parking was fine and secure I thought. I was pleased at this. The staff was very friendly and always ready to help with any questions. A security officer was always walking around on the grounds.

I have stayed in rooms a little more in center of the strip area and regreted it everytime. It is just too noisy. This place was just right. Now, I am not saying it is the Marriott or anything but I think you will be very pleased with your stay here. I was happy.

Do not forget to visit the bartender / owner of the bar in the rear of the hotel grounds. A very nice and knowledgable man. He has really good stories and history about some of the biggest names in the Tequilla industry, I thought they were great. You will easily get sucked into "Sipping" some of the best Tequilla around with him. I don't drink tequilla either. Before you know it 2 hours will have gone by. Good Luck and I hope this helps when looking for a place to stay in Ensenada.

I stayed here a couple years ago with my best friend for a "girls only" vacation. Our room was simple but clean, and even though the hotel is located centrally in a safe area, they still offered for me to park my car in a secured area. There's a happy hour in the cantina/restaurant overlooking the pool with free drinks on check-in. The bartender was the hotel manager/owner and he was very friendly and helpful in pointing out things to do. Breakfast was included in our stay, and this was no continental breakfast! Back in the cantina/restaurant, the owner's wife cooked a delicious breakfast of eggs, toast, coffee, and the best refried beans ever! THe pool was clean, pleasant, and quiet. Although we were disappointed that there wasn't really a beach nearby (we wanted to lie out on the sand) La Bufadora was a fun place about a half hour south to drive to. BTW, on the drive down there there were several locals selling homemade tamales on the roadside. They were really good (and cheap)!
I'll definitely stay at the El Rey SOl the next time I head to ENsenada.

We made reservations on the Hotel's website in April for our June stay. We requested a balcony room. We arrived at 2 PM and the room was not ready. No problem as check in wasn't until 3 so we had lunch and came back at 3. The room was ready. When we got to the room it was barely bigger than our bathroom at home. It ws dark, no balcony as requested, and no closet space or dresser space for clothes. We asked for another room with balcony and were told they didn't have any. We decided to splurge and upgrade to the master suite. The room was big with a jacuzzi tub. Problem was you couldn't fill the tub or take a shower as there was no water pressue. The hot just trickled out. We called for someone to fix it and the manager came up to look that night. He said someone would fix it in the morning. When we got back late afternoon it still had not been fixed. We called again and someone came up and looked at it again and said he would check the pressue to the hotel itslef. At 6 PM when nothing had been resolved we went to the desk to complain again. This time a new person was there and she said they have had that problem for 2 years!!! So, we changed rooms again! This time to a junior suite with the balcony we had requested in the beginning! This room also had a smaller jacuzzi tub, but still not enough pressure to fill. By the time it filled the water was cold. Overall the hotel is in a great location, a bit noisey but not too bad. Walking distance to everything. Don't think we'd stay there again. We've stayed in several other Ensenada Hotels and this one rates the lowest with us.
