“Fun atmosphere and nicest stop in Ensenada”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2014

Definitely a cleaner and newer bar when visiting Ensensada. We did venture to other smaller scale bars, but the location of this one is far nicer and the outdoor seating is the bigger part of its appeal. The beverages are good, the service is very good, and the fun atmosphere is GREAT.

“Beware”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

I was here April 2013.
We had a huge group of more than a hundred people from our kickball league. It was incredibly fun. Then again, we all from the same organization so the atmosphere might be different than what you would experience going with just your family and friends.
In the beginning, everything was fine. But as the day drags on, more and more of us got drunk. The bartender tried to take advantage of us. He tried to charge my friend $200 for a bucket of beers. We confirmed that it was in American dollars so there wasn't a misunderstanding. My friend wasn't drunk enough to fall for it. Recently, I talked to another friend and he told me pretty much the same story. So I decided to look up the bar. And as you can see from some of the other reviewers, this place (or at least one rouge bartender) tries to take advantage of drunk clients.

“Never a Dull Moment!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

Seems kind of like the end of an era with the old Papas & Beer location closing…but fear not, they have just moved across the street, and although the location is a little cleaner, newer and nicer, the drunken hijinks are still the same! Our group of friends has been doing an annual cruise to Ensenada for more years than I can count, and Papas & Beer has always been our go-to spot. Yes…as other reviews mentioned, if you are looking for a bar where the locals hang out and they serve authentic Mexican food, this is probably not the spot for you (though the table-made guacamole IS pretty awesomely good). But if you’re looking for fun people-watching and lots of beer drinking, then it doesn’t get any better than this spot. Tip….stick to the beer buckets…especially if your cruise ship gives you a coupon book…10 bottles of (good) beer and nachos for only $25! Score!! And the new location does something called Hot Shots, where the shots are lit on fire. The prices for the Hot Shots aren’t bad, and it makes for a good photo op! Cheers!! See you next December, Papas & Beer!!!

“Wild, loud and a big ol' crowd!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

It gets 5 stars for the WILD party they have for the cruise ships.

What are you looking for? Good authentic Mexican food? Great beer? Great drinks? Real Mexican city feel? Well don't go here!

On the OTHER hand if you are looking for a Mardi Gras type of party Mexican style then this IS where you wanna be. Really simple...people go here TO GET WILD! Most people are coming from the cruise ship and have left a shopping tour where FREE shots of Tequila accompany EACH purchase or corona factory beer tour. Therefore MOST people here are have probably had more drinks during this time than they will their entire cruise. Remember in Mexico the drinking age is ONLY 18, therefore you are going to have a LOT of excited 18 year old's ready and happy and willing to drink everything in sight. Then they are going to come here. Drinks will fly and you might get the occasional beer in your hair. People stand on top of the bar and tables. the list goes on.

Whistles will be blown in ears, body shots and girls being flipped upside down.

THERE will be the MORE than occasional exposure of women's upper body as well therefore this is NOT a PG13 spot.

So on the other hand if you are young, like loud top 40 music, with the occasional bare skin...ohhhhhh yeah this IS the spot to be! So come on down and PARTY.

Now if this doesn't sound like you, then don't go.

“Go For the Beer and Crazy People Watching”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

For those looking for a great place to eat, I can't help you and I would not expect much from this place. In my mind, Papas & Beer is purely for bucket-of-beer drinking (way cheaper than drinking on the ship) and hedonistic people watching. If you keep this in mind, you'll have a great time. $35 for a bucket of 10 beers and watching the crazy drunks get spanked was priceless. Lot so street vendors selling crap if you get a table on the sidewalk, but that's the same story throughout Ensenada.
