“Great fishing resort on the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

If you are looking for a 5 star resort,, this is not the place for you. Martin Vordugos is a fishing resort, camp ground and hotel. My wife and I stayed there in early November 2013, and loved it. The rooms do not have TV's, and minimal furnishings, the beds were comfy. The rooms are clean and have air conditioners, which is needed most of the spring, summer and fall. The pool was refreshing and clean. The palapa bar has a great view and right on the beach and most importantly made GREAT margaritas. The restaurant was only opened for breakfast, and the food was good. The fishing was great, I am a kayak fisherman, and caught a 100 lb. Sailfish about 200 yards of the beach from the resort.. Yes,, we will be going back again, and are planing on returning yearly. Oh, and I must add that Martin still runs this hands on, and is very helpful, and keeps your belongings safe inside the resort by closing gates at 11:00 pm every night.

Room Tip: Kitchen units are available, if you want it. I would recommend you request a beach view. Be sure to...

I made the reservation on advance, but when I arrived they didn't even know I was coming!
The room wasn't that great. I wasn't expecting luxury either, but the smell from the bathroom was strong and we didn't like that. I paid more so I could be in a room facing the ocean, but it ended up being a bad idea... people on the beach were way too noisy all day long as they had a group of teenagers staying there as well.
I didn't like their pool.
Better look for a different option as there are more for the same price.

Room Tip: I wouldn't go back there.

We just returned from a great week at Martin Verdugo's Beach Resort. We had a very relaxing time. No TV or phone (literally - no phone service). Had a small fridge in the room to keep our water & drinks cold. Our room had a double bed & 2 singles - cozy & we used the 2 singles for our suitcases. A/C on the couple of nights, when there wasn't enough breeze from the windows to keep us cool at night. A Fantastic view from our window & the seats outside our room were great for watching the sunrise, the morning fishing boat dances & the triumphant afternoon returns of the fishermen/women! Fun to watch, which boats returned with which flags! The pool was fine & the sea of Cortez just across the sand. The staff was all friendly - as were the other guests.
Captain Niño & Jose were fantastic! We caught & released 1 Striped Marlin our 1st day fishing & caught & released 3 more our 2nd day fishing (mine was of course the biggest - Fishing Chix RULE).
They also have a Pupula Bar - which gets crowded in the afternoons, when the fishing charters return - watch out for the margaritas - Very Strong! I had 2 & it was 1 too many!
Not fancy - but perfect if you're fishing! We preferred it to the glitz & noise of Cabo. We're planning on returning next year! Look out fish!

Sure the location is great but.....the rooms are like what you get for half the money anywhere else..And the beds have been the worse yet! Now the location is amazing, loved the town and beach access, time to up the rooms a bit for 85$.

Room Tip: Bring your RV, that is what we did our first trip and loved it way more..

We RVed at Martin Verdugo's beach resort in Los Barrilos. Martin and his family and staff run a hands-on business. They are all very accommodating and will do what is necessarty to make you feel comfortable. The townsite is safe and walkable and townfolk are friendly and helpful. Lots of commerce in this community. In addition to the RV component they have a hotel. I would definately recommend this place to anyone wanting reasonably priced accommodation for a winter getaway on the Sea of Cortez. As a footnote, evening quiet time (after 10 pm) is strictly monitored by Martin and adhered to by hotel guests and RV guests alike. Windsurfing, kiteboarding and fishing are awesome. There are tons of hiking, cycling, and atv trails. We'll be back for sure.

Room Tip: All room are within a stones throw of the sea of cortez.

This is a wonderful friendly place if your the casual no frills type of traveler. Catering more to fisherman than the tourist. Rooms are clean. Beds are a mix of perfect to a little to firm. They have RV sites, showers, laundry and a small restaurant open in the morning. The family who runs it are stellar. Fishing boats are well organized and successful.
