14 seasoned walkers enjoyed a bank holiday Sunday lunch at the 'Skipper', using their suggested 4.2m circular route – see their website.
We pre-booked with David (Front of house) from their fairly priced and balance menu. Having asked to be served promptly on our arrival, so that we could complete our walk and visit Southwick Hall in the afternoon, we were indeed served shortly after our arrival.
Meals taken ranged from roast beef dinners to chicken liver & brandy pate with many opting for filled ciabattas, or the lighter fish and chips, following a substantial breakfast at the Talbot Hotel, in nearby Oundle. Those having roast beef were asked how they wanted their beef served! Food quality was good.
The local ales were well received following our warm morning walk along the Nene river. The Skipper is set in lovely location, adjacent to open meadows bursting with flowers, and young calves grazing with the mothers.
With excellent service, fairly priced meals and good food, the Chequered Skipper is well worth a visit.
