“Very good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2014

I stayed here for 4 nights and found this a very good hotel. My room was very spacious, modern looking, clean and comfortable. The one thing I did find, when next doors kids decided to play up early morning, is that the room was not very well soundproofed. There is some building work going on but that did not bother me as I was out during the day. Nice pool, good staff and quiet due to its location, not on the main part of Ao Nang Beach where all the restaurants, bars and shops are but about a ten minute walk away. It is also at the right end of town for three of the top five rated restaurants in Ao Nang, I walked to them from the hotel. I would stay here again.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2014

Spent January 2014 a week holiday at this hotel. We had invested in room and took a penthouse suite. Unfortenately room was totally dirty and needs a radical cleaning and updating. I sent a mail to hotel manager and he agreed and made some action with it. He promised these two rooms to be renovated since April 2014. We changed room to new block and it was much better. Generally speaking hotel needs some general areas at the hotel radical wash (floors at breakfast room, reception, textiles at reception, floors under stairs at the restaurant area, bar). You can easily see, that the cleaning is different between new and old blocks. Sadly - we ordered a private transportation by leaving the hotel in the morning - the transportation never came. Reception persons clearly woke up an employee to drive us to airport after one hour waiting for transportation. Luckily we had enough time reserved for getting there. Tho location of the hotel is good, employees mainly polite, breakfast is ok and area is nice. Dinners (menu and buffets) are not the strongest part of this hotel. Some construction and building is going on in front of the hotel, but probably not so long time anymore. I hope that hotel makes more actions to clean dirty areas. I see that old blocks are 3-star and new 4-star level. WiFi works ok - at least at the balconies. Hope to get the promised refund by changing the room soon. Thanks for hotel management for noticing our dissatisfaction with first room and thanks also of birthday cake delivered friendly.

Room Tip: take blocks 4 and 5 to get new rooms with views. 4th and 3rd floors recommended. By travelling with...

Our start with this hotel was not so good. We arrived after 3 p.m. so we should have got our room immediately. However, we had to wait over an hour to get our room. This should not happen in any circumstances, since 3 p.m. is the final deadline to get a room. This can not be explained with high season, since it should not come as a surprise to the management that extra staff is needed. Or another option is that the staff is not efficient. Mainly because of this the overall rating dropped from 4 to 3. One would wait some kind of compensation, even free drinks while waiting. But nothing was offered. Another complaint about the cleaning staff: our room was poorly cleaned in one day during our stay. Otherwise the cleaning was ok.

The room was ok. However not so well build, since the water from the shower came all over the floor in the bathroom even the door of the shower corner was closed as well as it was possible. No wonder if there are problems with the moisture in this building very soon. Our room was in the new block.

Staff was friendly, mostly. Asking how are things etc. Once I got a little bit impolite service from the reception. The person did not understand English very well, which is guide weird when working in a place like that...

The breakfast was very good. Asian, European and American guests were noticed. Lots of fresh fruits, at least 4 different kind of juices, a station where you could ask eggs cooked in 6 different ways etc.

The environment, pool, restaurant, lobby bar etc. were nice. Lot's of trees and other plants around and nice big pools.

Location was great, in a quiet part of Ao Nang. The Nopparath beach was just across the road. We did not spend time much there but seemed a lot nicer than Ao Nang beach. It was a short walk to the restaurants and bars also from our hotel. Not too far away from the center.

I am currently day 2 of a 10 day stay at the Holiday Inn Krabi and have not been impressed at all. The actual resort is very nice with no complaints there but we have already experienced a few issues in other areas.
I emailed before leaving to request a room in the older section (away from the kids area) and was told it was noted and they will do their best on arrival, which I understood.
After nearly 16 hours of traveling to get here and arriving at 3.15pm, we were told that we would have to wait 1 hour for a room to be ready. Check in was meant to be at 3.00pm?
After 1 hour of sitting around, I had to go up and request our room which then prompted the girl to call and check. We were finally taken to our room which is directly opposite the kids trampoline area complete with a clown doing balloon animals. Not exactly what we were hoping for?
My husband asked if we could be moved to the older section (away from the kids area) which he was told was fully booked for the next two days. I then asked if we could change rooms after the 2 days but was told the room was "after today and tomorrow, was fully booked"? I am not sure if it was a language barrier but this made no sense especially when I was told I could not request a specific area before we left and they would need to see what was available on arrival?
We could not get the air con to work in our room and with no remote or info book we called housekeeping. They said they would send someone but after 50 minutes, I had to call back. Two men then arrived 10 minutes later to tell us our doors to the balcony (which were closed when we arrived in the room and when we initially tried the air con) were not closed properly which is why it would not work. Very frustrating!
This morning at around 7am we asked reception if our room was meant to have an info book on the hotel as we were not sure where everything was or opening/closing times which she said she would talk to housekeeping but after returning to our room having being cleaned at around 10.am there was still no book?
My husband went to find housekeeping to get some tissues which we were also missing from our room and noticed she had an info book on her trolley which he grabbed along with the tissues.
The service seems to be very poor and slow and after reading similar comments before we left, we had hoped it had been improved.
Hoping things get better for the rest of our stay.....

Being a chain hotel, there is little personalisation however staff were generally helpful and pleasant if sometimes a little bit frayed.
The Hotel & rooms are modern, well fitted and well kept. The newest rooms are near the kids area.
The Older part of the hotel maintains the best position on the property and has been renovated and seems to be for the couples with a large, quiet pool.
Some outside hall areas seem to suffer a slight odour from sewer, I suspect from next door hotel.
Breakfast is good if included with room rate.
Swim out rooms are great for that first early morning dip however do suffer from lack of privacy as other guests laze in the sun straight across the pool from the rooms from mid morning all day.
Beds are hard as most everywhere in Thailand and we had to ask for an additional soft cover over the mattress which seemed, by the staff response, to be a usual request.
This hotel is very well set up to cater for children and I would highly recommed it if you want the kids off your hands for a least part of the day as there is a very good kids club with great staff. Fortunately for couples without kids, there are 2 big pools- well separated by lawn.
Kids and their parents tend to stay in the area with the Kid's waterslides, kids club, etc. well away from the adults area.
The main area of Krabi is a Bt30 ($1) pp tuktuk ride away. The hotel is much quieter than 'down town' but there are also plenty of restaurants close and in walking distance.
The beach is absolutely NOTHING to write home about and is generally mud at low tide which seemed to be all the time.

A nice, well run, but not outstanding hotel.

Room Tip: Advise the hotel early if you want to be in the kids section of the property. If your privacy is im...

We were at the hotel for five nights two adults and three children(12,10,6). The children were in a separate room. The rooms were a rear view (some rooms with sea view and pool) view from our room was towards the garden. Rooms are spacious and very clean. Large double bed. Shower and bathroom very spacious. The service at the hotel is very luxurious. Staff welcoming. Each request was answered quickly and courteously. The children especially enjoyed the pool and water slides.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn for 9 nights over New Year. To be honest, we did not arrive with especially high expectations so overall we were not disappointed or particularly impressed. As the title says, it was all fairly average.

We had a pool access room – definitely a bonus. Our room was in the old block, so immediately you feel a little hard done by. The newer wing has far, far better furniture. The “beds” on our terrace were incredibly uncomfortable – not a bed and not a chair and impossible to get a happy medium. Also we had no shade from about 12:00 (room 2111) – fine, if you like to frazzle yourself, but sometimes it was unbearable to sit there. There was definitely a nasty odour on occasions – perhaps from the drains or the tidal mangrove river at the back of the property. However, I think you get used to it! The storage space for clothing was minimal and the bathroom could have done with a bit of a deep clean and a new shower curtain – but it wasn’t horrendous. Quite a few of the pool access rooms, in both wings, have issues with privacy.

The one benefit of being in the old wing is that it is far more peaceful. The newer wing has all the activities going on, which is fine if you have children or like water polo but not great if you want calm, peace and relaxation.

We only ate breakfast at the hotel. In my opinion the breakfast wasn’t as bad as some reviews say. There were lovely omelettes, made freshly for you. For me the choice was sufficient but repetitive. My husband, who likes decent quality meats, whether cold cuts or cooked, was less content. The one thing that did annoy me at breakfast was that you weren’t served tea or coffee. You could get it yourself but the tea was terrible so after the first couple of days I gave up on my breakfast tea. We had a few drinks at the pool bar. The service at the new pool was fine but the one time we tried to get a drink at the old pool it took ages, so we didn’t bother again – instead we bought drinks from the mini-market next door.

The service at Reception was good. Whenever we had a query it was dealt with in a friendly and efficient way. Also had no problems with housekeeping.

For us the location of the hotel was fine. We either walked into town or got a tuk-tuk, if feeling lazy. It didn’t have the feel of a beachfront hotel as the beach is over a busy road. Also, it is not an especially nice beach. I certainly wouldn’t want to sit on the sand there or go in the sea. The location is handy for getting longtail boats elsewhere.

Every evening we ate in Ao Nang. There was an Indian Restaurant close by, Namaste, which was good and we also enjoyed a meal at Carnivore. On the whole, we were very disappointed with the Thai food we had. It was all rather bland.

Although some of the surrounding scenery is beautiful, I would not return to Ao Nang as I found it a bit over developed; a lot of shops selling tat and not especially impressive restaurants. To sum up it was a relaxing stay but nothing special.
