Just got back from a lovely 3 day, 3 night stay here. I love this hotel! I thought it was better than some 5 star hotels I've stayed at in other locations in Southeast Asia. The hotel sits directly opposite the Ao Nang beach. It is a 30 second walk to the beach. The rooms are large and spacious and if you are on the ground floor, you will have direct access to the pool from your room and private deck. The pool is large and clean and nice. The beds are comfortable and every day, the housekeeping replenishes your (free) bottled water supply. The staff works hard to meet every demand. They are very friendly and eager to help.
We ran into two snafus during our trip but the staff worked hard to make it work. The first was, I paid for an extra bed for our trip but when we got there, the staff at the counter said I had to pay more money because according to the booking, there was no extra bed. I went down and showed her my receipt providing proof that I already paid for the extra bed. Finally, they said ok and delivered the extra bed with a platter of fruit and extra bottled water as an apology. Secondly, after 2 nights, one person in our party wanted to move out of the room and get another room for themselves. Unfortunately, that night was sold out and full, but the staff called the very next morning at 9am to let us know that another room was available and already ready to move into. They also gave us a discount on that room by subtracting the price of the extra bed against the new room so the total was only about $45usd a night!
The spa was clean and spacious and during Mon-Fri, there is a 25% discount. I thought the massage itself (Siam therapy massage) was only OK though. Not mind blowing, but I'm a regular massage getter in Singapore so my standards are quite high.
The location of the hotel is really excellent. The Ao Nang town is only 10-15 min walk away, or if you take a tuk tuk (which the hotel can call for you), only 5 min away and 20 baht per person. Honestly, I've walked up and down the main road multiple times and I thought the Holiday Inn was the best hotel there. Don't be fooled by others calling themselves 'resort and spa;' the others look very motel-like and run down. Many are nowhere near the beach.
For activities, we arranged all our day trips through the hotel concierge. It's super easy and inexpensive and they charge it to your room. We did the Ao Nang Orchid tour of the Four Islands. It was only $38 usd a person for the whole day, which included speed boat transportation, lunch, snorkeling equipment. The only downside about that tour was that we were gone for a whole day and there was not a single bathroom break and I did not see a single bathroom either.
The construction was the only reason I left off a star for this property. I prepaid my hotel room 6 months in advance, before any construction started. I had no idea there was going to be any construction till I went on the hotel website one week before my trip. I do think the hotel staff should have informed me in an email prior to my trip. The construction is really noisy. It would have been so relaxing at the pool area if not for the incessant banging and drilling. They're supposed to be done next month though. It's clear that the new wing is going to be spectacular. If I come back to Krabi again, I will definitely stay here again!
