“Nice hotel, but the "fitness centre" is a real joke!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

A rather new and quite nice hotel which is located a bit away from the ”city centre”. It´s a healthy 10 minutes walk down to the beach and centre.

Very quiet and nice environmet – both on the in- and outside.

I had a ”pool access” which could be rated as a 5 star room. It had nice interior with all facilities necessary and it was perfectly clean.

Krabi has a lot of space and I cannot understand why they´ve made these extremely narrow pools. Two adult persons could not pass eachother whithout ”crashing” while swimming .

The service was good. Mostly very smiling and helpful people all around. The cleaners were the most accommodating and smiling crewmembers I met here – and they did a proper cleaning job as well. My compliments to them.

One thing I reacted to, was the fixed price of the breakfast buffett which was 400 -FOUR HUNDED- bath per person every day. This is redicilous. In Norway, the worlds most expensive country, a hotel breakfast is valuated to cost 58 NOK (280 Baht). Come on… You are not a five star hotel and you cannot price urself as one either - especially not in Thailand!

The ”fitness centre” was VERY disappointing and is nothing more than a small home gym. One simple multigym, two treadmills for home use, a few dumbells rating up to 12 kilos and an ellipse machine is NOT A FITNESS CENTRE!
If u work out seriously and want to live in this hotel, I suggest that you buy a subscription or pay each day to use the gym of the Naga Puri hotel which is located 70 meters down the road. It´s not a good gym, but at least they have studio equipment where you can get a proper workout. I paid 1500 Baht for one month sybsciption in this gym (even if I only was in Krabi for 10 days). Anyway – worth the money.

Otherwise, I didn´t find Krabi special in any way, so I guess I won´t come back!

At first when we arrived we were disappointed with the location and the pools, but after a few days we found that Tuk Tuks were no problem.

Key positives:
- Clean spacious family rooms and kids playroom
- Clean and tidy pool and hotel area

Key negatives:
- Slooooow (but friendly) service in restaurant
- Location requires some efforts to go to the beach - mainly taking a tuk tuk
- strange, narrow pool area with few sunbeds (even fewer with any chance of getting any sun) as it is placed between tall hotel buildings
- a bit disappointing menu and offering in the breakfast/dinner restaurant

PS; After staying in another highly rated hotel in Trang area - we actually wanted to go back to Mercure....

Mercure Krabi Deevana, at first look seems like it could have done with being a little more proximately located to the beach, but once you take a walk out, you realize that it isn’t really too bad.
Check-in is at 2 pm, so remember to inform the staff in advance, if you plan to reach there sooner. We reached at 12, but had to wait for a room till 2, since they were running full. Check out is preferable at 12 noon, to be able to make it easier for them to check other guests in. Also check out is a cumbersome process and does take up more than normal time. Someone comes and checks the mini-bar. Then the bell man arrives. Then you reach the reception and someone else from housekeeping goes and makes a check. You might as well buffer in about 30 minutes for check out, if you have a flight to catch or are booking a taxi to reach some place else.
The hotel layout is strange. It has around 5-6 blocks (my estimate) three floors per block (strange that the ground floor is numbered Floor 1 – there is no Level 0!). The ground floor rooms have a private entrance to the pool and it seems weird when you look around, to realize there isn’t a common pool for other inmates. It didn’t make much of difference to us, since we didn’t need to use the pool, but if we had to, it would be interesting trying to clarify that with the Reception (we were staying on Level 2).
Standard 4* room amenities, a well-equipped mini bar, a balcony for each room and a bath tub, makes the room a worthwhile place to return to. Food wasn’t much to speak of, since I’m a vegetarian, though I did see some veggie fair on the menu, sad only to discover when it reached the table that it was smelling of some meaty oil. Maybe a common oil or a animal fat based oil. But that is not a Mercure Krabi or a region specific issue, that is an issue all over the places we visited. Communication was a problem to the waitresses at the restaurant at dinner and they seemed to understand barely anything, even though you’d point at the dish you wanted, from the menu, but making sure ever so often to place spoons and napkins at the table with a “Sorry”. Would have been much more helpful, if there was a captain or a head steward we could have communicated with.
The bar has happy hours at two-three times during the day which is a very fine service and given the separate lounge offering it, its definitely something to try.

Room Tip: Try Blocks 2 or 3 - Closer to the main building and the restaurant, spa and the bar..Also, try to up...

the hotel is beautifully made... with beautiful lights in the evening...nt very far from the aonag beach... Staff is extremely polite and helpful.. we asked for a room shift, without any excuses it was made available... It was a perfect room for our honeymoon... beautiful rooms, clean bathrooms and bath tubs...

Room Tip: Do not choose the pool access rooms opposite to the pool bar.. it gets too noisy....

This is a great hotel. Staff here is very friendly with the exception if the two guys working the Sunbird pool bar Sunday 17 who made it painfully obvious they hated their job (10-15 minute wait for a drink) they are not bar keeps in sense. The location isn't beach but it only takes 3-4 minutes to walk from the peaceful location to the beach. We have tried the food here and it is reasonably priced and much better then a couple places we tried on the beach strip. The things people complain about like distance could be fixed if the booked the best western instead. I would recommend this place hands down!!!!

Great hotel, above average for a Mercure hotel. Unfortunately, the service is still quite poor. Restaurant is very good. Not sure whether the premium prices vs other hotels is worth it. Advance booking can provide cheaper rates.
