“Nice hotel with no traffic noise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2012

The hotel is located in a quiet green environment with no traffic noise. It has a nice pool with a beautiful view and free towels. To get to the beach, you can either walk for about 15 min (+/- 1 km) or take the free hotel shuttle. On the way to the beach you find all sorts of shops and restaurants, so we just had breakfast in the hotel. Breakfast was really good, especially the omelette you could order.
We stayed in Phu Pi Maan for 4 nights in february 2012, but extended our stay for one additional night because there's a lot you can do in the area. The first 4 nights we had a room on the first floor with a small balcony, which didn't bother us because we rarely used it. The only problem we had was the shower: the water didn't drain fast enough, so after a shower of 2 min, the bathroom floor would get wet. We let the reception know and they send someone to look after it, but that didn't really help. Luckily, there was also a nice bathtub, so we used that. For our last night we had to change rooms, because ours was already booked. We moved up to the second floor, where we had a better view, a bigger balcony and a shower that drained as it should. In every room you get slippers, bathrobes, some fruit on your fist day and 2 small bottles of water every day.
Staff was very friendly and helpful, they even called our tour guide when he was late, to ask if everything was ok (without us asking for it).

Rooms: we stayed in a deluxe room with a cot for our daughter. It was clean with a fabulous view, and a balcony.
Food: breakfast was good - lots of choice and friendly service. It's a shame the restaurant isn't used more, as the food is great quality - just a bit expensive and no alcohol served.
Service: I don't understand the posts below - we had great service, and the staff speak good English.
Location: perfect. Away from the hustle and bustle, but a shuttle taxi to town/beach takes 5 mins, is available when you need it, and is aircon and seat belted.
Pools: bliss. We were often the only ones in them! Free pool towels on request from reception.

Room Tip: We stayed in a deluxe room - they're big, and there's a good view from the balcony.

In November 2011 we were a family of two line-up, at this hotel for a week. The place is very clean, high-quality hotel rooms and spacious. Staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful. Traffic noise is not. The pools are relatively small (2 units), but the children they had a good time. The location is a small offset from the center (up to 1 km), but many times it will replace the hotel offers free shuttle service to at least a few kilometers radius. If you wanted the local market or on the beach, took the house and brought as agreed upon.

The hotel is a Finnish translation of the name: "Mountain in Paradise". We think that is true. The hotel is located in the walls of the mighty mountain.

We had a great time at Phu Pi Maan, stayed in a deluxe room which perfect for us and we hardly spent anytime in it. It's about 10/15 minute walk to the main area of Ao Nang but there are plenty of shops, bars and restuarants on the way in. The pool is so lovely and has amazing views.

We can't comment on the restuarant as we never ate there, due to the fact that it was always empty, I guess because they don't serve alchohol and that there is so much choice in Ao Nang. Just head to the 7-11 to stock your fridge.

Only downside is the smell from the bathroom - does put you off when having a bath, but not enough to ruin our stay. Would happily go back here, peaceful and quiet - a hidden gem!

Phu Pi Maan is a beautiful resort nestled in natural rural environment which is quiet but yet just 5 minutes drive away from Aonang beach. We can hear the symphony of the cicadas at night from our balcony and wake up to birds chirping and rooster crowing in the morning. They provide free shuttle to and from Aonang beach which is excellent.

The complimentary breakfast is ok in terms of taste and variety.

The staff in this resort generally do not have a good grasp of English. But I do not mind this language barrier as most of them do try hard to understand what I said. One just has to patiently explain and repeat to them one's request. And follow up as they sometimes forget. They always ultimately deliver. What was unpleasant was the attitude of a few personels at the reception who were unhappy to serve. I was always polite and smiling when talking to them. But many times, these few personnels did not smile and one even looked away when answering my question. I merely asked him to repeat what he had said.

We stayed in the standard deluxe room which was nice and spacious with a lovely view of the limestone mountains. There is a nice traditional Thai touch to it as well. The problem I faced was with the hot water supply in the shower room. It was not consistent and alternated between very hot and cold quite drastically. I almost scalded my arm. So, I decided to use the shower at the bath instead. Also, watch out for big red ants which do crawl into/on top of the bed at times. I sprayed insect repellant which worked.

We stayed in a villa - the bed was really comfortable, but the bathroom smelt like sewage the whole time - we had to keep the lid down on the toilet, but it just got worse to the point it made you feel sick entering the room - in the end we asked for something to be done about it & at the desk they didn't seemed shocked when we told them, so this must be a regular occurrence - they came in & put a blower vac down the drain in the shower - this seemed to fix the problem while we were there for the rest of the trip. Also the staff had trouble understanding what we were asking for on many occasions & we had to ask for a lot of things like where was the hairdryer, where were the pool towels etc..The pool was great - there is a great view from it, but the staff never came around collecting the wet towels when people had finished with them & if you wanted more pool towels you had to go to the foyer to sign for one. Speaking of the foyer it needed a good sweep & a tidy up - one good thing was they had 2 computers there for 24hour use which was handy. When we arrived there was a plate of fruit left in the room for us with gladwrap over it with 2 rusty knives next to it - we never ate the fruit & we were there for 4 nights & it was never once removed/replaced - we removed the fruit on the last day - the grapes were mouldy so we threw them away & the rest of it we took down the to end of the beach to feed to the monkeys which was lots of fun! Also when you made yourself a cup if coffee in the room the coffee & sugar in the sticks were rock hard (probably due to the humidity), but they never replaced the coffee or sugar - you had to ask for more - we have stayed in other resorts around Thailand & this has been the only one where attention to detail has left a lot to be desired. There is a free shuttle into town from the resort - it is easy enough to catch from the hotel, but unless you have a mobile phone you can't get a ride back as they only come down when you call. Sometimes we got a ride in & other times we walked - it isn't far into town - maybe 15 minutes or a bit less. Breakfast was ok, but we never ate lunch or dinner there - nobody did - at night the restaurant was always empty. We did eat there once for New Year's Eve around the pool & we enjoyed that. Overall the place needs to be revamped - the staff need to learn to smile a bit more & they need to be aware of things - this was not a cheap resort compared to the other 2 places we stayed in on this trip - infact it was the most expensive, but compared to Ping Nakara in Chaing Mai & The Grand Millennium in Bangkok those 2 places were miles infront of Phu Pi Maan Resort & Spa when it came to service & amenities & they charged us more?? - we would not stay here again.
ps - there is no alcohol served at this resort - you have to go into town for it.

Room Tip: There are villas around the pool which we had or there were hotel rooms above the foyer - choose a v...

This was our third hotel for our trip to Thialand as part of our 3 week honeymoon so we are sort of getting calibrated by this stage.
The reception was confusing as we had 4 people behind the desk just saying too much and not making much sense. This was not about their command of the English language it was about being clear, listening and only 1 person talking at a time.
We were staying over the New Year period and we must have been asked 5 times by the guy on reception if we wanted to join them for a meal. We made our apologies many times but again he tried. To be honest it was embarassing and smacked of desperation.
This was a great shame as there are other members of staff who go about their business very efficiently and effectively.
The building is new but already showing signs of not being looked after. Cobwebs everywhere, the floor in reception looks like it needs a good clean. Also there are many ants, I know this cannot be avoided but it does not help when finished food is left by the pool or outside of rooms for nearly a day.
The toilets in the rooms also smell a bit, keep your door shut and the lid down and you wont have a problem.
We had a nice time and the pool area and backdrop are fabulous but for me some of the reviews feel a little over the top for what is a reasonable hotel and not on our experience a great one.

Room Tip: Keep you toilet lid down and your door shut your bathroom door The free taxi service is excellent...
