“OK accomodation but we didn't feel safe”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2012

I do not know how much we paid for this accomodation as it was booked as part of a package in Bangkok. It was ok, the rooms were spacious and we had a fridge but there was no air con and no safety deposit box. The walls were quite grubby and needed a good painting over! This was the only accomodation we stayed in in Thailand where our rooms were actually cleaned daily by the cleaners though. The staff at reception were not greatly friendly.

The bungalows are on a road just off the main street of Ao Nang. They are quite far away from the beach front (about a 15 minute walk).

The reason we did not feel safe here was because on our second night at 5am somebody tried to open our bungalow door twice and we saw a shadow of a man on our balcony. Our first thoughts were that somebody was trying to break in the rob us! Because the bungalows are quite secluded and set far away from each other, and because there were not many guests staying there at the time, we were quite scared thinking nobody would hear us shout for help. Anyway, the next morning the man was asleep on our balcony and it turned out he was drunk and had got the wrong bungalow. We left these bungalows that day but had we planned to stay another night, I don't think we would have done.

Perhaps a 300 baht standard bungalow experience priced at 1400 baht.

Ao Nang has become quite expensive compared to other areas in Thailand with some low standards of accommodation at high prices for what you get. I checked out three places and ended up taking a bungalow at Ao Nang Garden Home Resort (as the signage has it) because it was just too hot to keep looking.

The whole place just seems neglected and looks like accommodation that has been closed for years. Reception staff are disinterested and the reception area is most unwelcoming. Inside the bungalow was clean enough but the electrical socket and wires were hanging from the wall. Take a walk down the path (and what a shame - this garden has so much potential) and you come to what could be the highlight of the property, what was once a bamboo restaurant overlooking a stunning view of limestone cliffs but just left in a filthy state.

We checked out as soon as reception opened at 7am the next day and left Ao Nang for Lanta. You'd have to pay me to go back to Ao Nang again. Such a shame.
