My wife and I spend 11 nights (Oct.25 - Nov.06,2012) at the Krabi Resort, our 4th visit. My last extensive review was posted on Dec.19,2009).This time we "graduated" to A2,a 1st row ocean view bungalow. We enjoyed every minute of our stay.Whatever needs to be said about this hotel has already been said in numerous TripAdvisor reviews. Here I will only answer to some of the negative comments being made.THE RESORT LOOKS NEGLECTED,and the Sheraton further north along the coast,is much better. You should compare apples to apples. The 5-star Sheraton is at least twice expensive as the Krabi Resort.Tucked away in an isolated location,it is great for 2-3 days of splurging. If you want to visit Ao Nang, you are looking at expensive taxi rides.Access to non-hotel restaurants is limited. The Krabi Resort is a very large property, and as such there will always be things that need fixing.During our recent visit,we saw numerous renovations taking place.Owners/partners had breakfast and often dinner at beachside tables, right next to the hotel guests. And a new resort manager toured the property from early morning to late at night. The place was humming. We prefer the charm and Thai-ness of the Krabi Resort over expensive chain hotels, that all seem to look the same.DIRTY BEACH-you have to remember, that you are facing the Indian Ocean, and that the High Tide will deposit floating garbage onto the beach. But hotel employees take care of it,and we never experienced a dirty beach.RAILAY BEACH IS BETTER-this beach is shallower, has finer sand, and with its limestone cliffs as background is without questions far more exotic and romantic than Ao Nang Beach, but the water must be polluted from the endless number of Longtail Boats, that ferry people between the Ao Nang and Railay beaches, and the Phi Phi Island Ferry. The sandflies there can also make a meal of you.We have never seen guests from other hotels, using the Krabi Resort beach chairs. But you do will find the curse of all the beachside hotels, the ignorant people, who in the morning "reserve" a chair with as book and a towel, then take a 5 hour island cruise.LACK OF ENGLISH-we never had a BIG problem with the reception staff..You have to remember, that guests arrive from all over the world, most of them speaking English with their own accents,a receipe for all kinds of misunderstandings.Slow down, you are on vacation, everything will work out in the end.I have to admit, that the restaurant staff could use some English lessons. Some employees try very hard to communicate with their guests. For these we always leave a greeting card and a generous tip. This time service was far better than in previous years, when the restaurant staff mostly stood around, which I would blame on lack of supervision and guidance.THE RESORT RESTAURANT-it is mostly deserted at lunch and dinner. The only business we saw came from large groups of conventioneers. Most guests prefer to eat outside the resort. Our favourite beach restaurant, the Krua Ao Nang Bar and Grill,is right next door. The food is excellent and the staff treats you like family.Watch great sunsets right from your table.THE BREAKFAST BUFFET-it has improved over the years.Better layout and better access to the food. The Chefs should obtain a guest list and vary the buffet items according to the nationalities present. When spending close to 2 weeks at this resort, you get tired of fried noodles, cashew nut chicken and tasteless chicken sausages,But nothing beats having breakfast right next to and above the beach. It was always the highlight of the day.
