“Magical Farm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

I recently had the pleasure to help host a month long Yoga Teacher Training at this beautiful farm. Gabriela and James have joined their tremendous souls to build this farm into something super special. A place that can transform you and take you away to another world. Dropped in the middle of the jungle in Nicaragua, each cabana is as natural and outside as you could possibly get without creatures finding a liking to your bed. Taking a solar-powered hot water shower under the stars surrounded by tropical goodness and singing birds completes the night before crawling into a cushy bed. Getting bored here is not an option. Waking up to beautiful sunlight, walking out onto a path into the jungle instead of a sidewalk to a car and indulging in juices from fruit grown from the earth of the farm itself. A profound local respect rains in from the natural boundaries of the farm due to the extreme positive impact Gabriela and James have on the small village of Las Salinas. You can feel the love. If you are interested in having a yoga retreat or yoga teacher training I highly advise you to consider this magical farm.

I've never in my life visited anything like Equilibrio before - a peaceful little haven for any nature lover, yogi or otherwise.

Equilibrio itself is new, but James (Jaime) and Gabriela have lived in Nicaragua for years and know all the ins and outs of the area - their work in the community means that all the local people knows them by name. They (and full staff) arranged everything I needed - meals, side trips, transportation to/from Managua, a whole bunch of special requests.

The privacy and beauty of the retreat itself are extraordinary...so beautiful, so uniquely crafted, so lovingly cared for. It's the kind of place where you can nap in your choice of hammocks as many times a day as you want to... kayak to the beach... pick the bananas that grow in your private outdoor shower (!). I was a solo visitor, but I don't doubt that anyone hoping to participate in organized volunteer work, yoga retreats, or any other getaway in the area will find what they are looking for at Equilibrio.

On a practical note... unlike most accommodation in rural Nicaragua, Equilibrio has full private bathrooms and hot (solar!) showers.... also unlimited filtered/fresh drinking water in every casita (room). I didn't fully appreciate any of this until I'd left the retreat and started traveling. And the retreat IS quite isolated, so don't expect the one local convenience store to stock everything - if there are things you simply can't live without, bring them just in case (or ask in advance). Also there is no wifi (yet) which I found totally refreshing and appreciated - if it had been available I would have used it, so I am glad I could not (wired connection was available).

Thank you kind hosts - and Namaste!!!

Equilibrio is such an amazing farm and yoga retreat center! There is so much love that has gone into each of those cabins and you feel like you have so much privacy while still being close to everything on the resort. Gabriela is an amazing yoga teacher and the place is such a close walk to town and to the ocean! To have a heated shower under the moon and stars near the ocean in Nicaragua was such a treat! The kitchen and dining area are so nice and right by the river. You could spend weeks there completely immersed in your art and yoga practice or you could be in the local community and the surfing culture that surrounds the area. Its such a perfect get away place and I can't wait to visit again!

Finca Equilibrio is unbelievable! This place is hidden in paradise. You can tell the owners put their hearts and souls into crafting this place, from the hang-a-torium where you can lounge in hammocks or have a music jam out session with the owner, to each individually crafted cabin. The showers are outside and heated through solar power! The infinity well is a trip, and taking the kayaks out at sunset and seeing the phosphorescence in the water is a once in a lifetime experience. The food served on the farm comes from the amazing fruit trees and organic gardens sprinkled around the farm. On top of it all, the farm cuddles up in between a local village with lots of character and the most gorgeous beach ever. There are hardly any folks there and the surf is top notch.

Room Tip: Each cabin is equally amazing. I like the one with the stuffed moose on the bed myself.

Equilibro is a gorgeous oasis hidden in the town of Salinas. It's teeming with lush vegetation and wildlife; a lovely and tranquil place to reconnect with nature. The farm is immaculately maintained, including the grounds, the casitas, and the gathering areas. The casitas are spacious and elegant. I was impressed with the practically invisible mosquito netting surrounding the house, giving the place a very open feel. Each house has its own covered veranda with hammock and seating. The hangatorio (spelling? hang out area) is an awesome place for events; there's a cool bar, fun lighting, hammocks, gorgeous furniture, and a view of the river. I really enjoyed kayaking down the river, which leads to the ocean. The location is great because you have easy access to Salinas and the beautiful beaches of Popoyo and Guasacate. Jaime and Gabriela are amazing people doing amazing things in the community- I was happy to offer them business and would recommend volunteering at their school and library. I really enjoyed practicing yoga with Gabriela, you don't want to miss a class with her! I had an all around beautiful experience and highly recommend Equilibrio!!

I just got back from a wonderful stay at Equilibrio Yoga Art Nature Retreat. It combines modern conveniences with a truly out in the selva feel. The casitas have large screened openings on 3 sides for a view of the native birds, plants, and butterflies while also furnishing a modern, enclosed bathroom and dressing room. The totally private open air shower has hot water. The "Hangatorium" available for gatherings and meals is truly unique with a high conical ceiling of thatch. There are guitars and drums for those so inclined as well as a high stage for groups wishing for drama. A yoga floor is on this lush property for early morning yoga as well as other times of the day. I participated in a beach yoga session on the fishing beach where 3 locals also joined in. Lying on the warm sand was truly relaxing. Other sessions were held on the nearby beach where the sunsets were spectacular. Horseback riding and massages are other activities offered. Canoes and kayaks are also available for another access to the beach. The meals were all delicious, and there was plenty of safe drinking water and refrescos (fruit drinks). For those interested in Nicaraguan culture, the nearby village is a delight to visit with many friendly, family oriented people. Since I was involved in a service trip, we had ample opportunity to meet villagers and help furnish books for their library, build gardens, build solar ovens, help with school music and craft projects, and teach English. However, I could also see my husband and I going there for a quiet retreat to enjoy the rainforest surroundings and the beach. After meeting the villagers and their beautiful children, I would also still want to do something of use to them. The selection between family and friends is difficult, as my husband and I went with part of our family as well as some friends.

Room Tip: All of the casitas are similar, so any would be great.

I recently returned from Las Salinas with 19 others from our church for a week of service. Jaime, Gabriella, Katie, Petra and a host of other helpful and friendly staff provided us with a most remarkable week. The other reviewers correctly describe the incredible surroundings, food, architecture, and character of Equilibrio Yoga Art Nature Retreat. What I will always remember is the great love and passion Jaime and Gabriella have for the community of Las Salinas and how they orchestrated (with a large cast!) each step of our service work, meals, transportation, materials, and more. We all worked hard building gardens, teaching children and adults, building solar ovens and much more. It was wonderful to return to Equilibrio at the end of the day to relax, head to the beach, enjoy great food and or rest in our lovely rooms. Thank you, Jamie and Gabriella.
