We popped in here for a pint on a Monday lunchtime. Beer at £3.60 a pint is, frankly, taking the mickey. The young lad behind the bar was working his very first day, so we accepted that the service would be a little inefficient. We looked at the food menu - also overpriced - and decided to get some sandwiches from the store in Orford... Our tip would be to have a drink in one of the other pubs in the main part of the village - the Crown & Castle in particular, though also not cheap, gives better value for money.

My wife and I stayed for one night whilst walking the Suffolk Coastal Path in August 2012. We were hot and weary after a 17.5 mile stage from Aldeburgh, and our welcome could not have been better. Friendly, professional staff made us feel at home in this beautiful old pub. The new owner came out to greet us and our room was simply delightful. Large, airy with a view over the gardens and the largest en-suite (with free standing bath) I've seen for a long time. Dinner was superb - they have a VERY good chef - local fish and good wine. Breakfast was wonderful with a choice of full English, Kippers or Smaoked Salmon & Scrambled Egg. We left refreshed and happy for our next day's walking. Will certainly stay at the Jolly Sailor again - heartily recommended to all!

Excellent friendly and efficient service. Good choice of food and the best fish and chips we'd had for ages. The fish really tasted like fish used to! very fresh and nicely cooked. A lovely beer garden out back, weather permitting.

We visited one very busy lunchtime and struggled at first to find a table but once seated we had an excellent experience. The staff, including the friendly and super-efficient bar manager, were young, attentive and friendly and despite how busy the pub was our food came in good time. Between us we had three very different main courses (traditional fish and chips; cod loin on garlic mashed potato; and aubergine tempoura), all of which were excellent. The Adnams bitter was very well kept and we will defintely return if we visit this area again.

The Ownership of the JS has changed and the new young team are trying hard.Food excellent and varied, I had the best whole Sea Base I have eaten anywhere and of course the Adnams Suffolk Ales excellent.
The Garden has been refurbished and is ideal for a summers day.
They only have two letting rooms at the moment but these are clean and comfortable with good en-suite bathrooms. The Pub is just a hundred yards from the Quay with miles of beautiful walks from the front door.

Room Tip: With just two available toss a coin !

As someone from a neighbouring village i wanted to support local business but the bar maid was very rude especially when we asked about a cold menu or just ordering chips, we were refused both. Nice that they can afford to turn away business!
