We stayed at the hotel for two nights, which included a taster menu both nights - this was our biggest area of disappointment throughout our stay.
On checking in we were informed that this deal shouldn't have been accepted for a weekend, but as the error was not ours they would honour it. I had emailed the hotel in advance to inform them of two food allergies and received a response assuring me this had been passed to the chef.
The tasting menu on the first night was good quality for both a meat and vegetarian menu, and a fish dish on the former was changed for my partner when we asked if this was possible without any issue.
The second evening's tasting menu was very poor in terms of what was on it and the service. The meat option contained two game servings in a row. The parsnip risotto tasted exactly the same as the courgette risotto from the night before. My partner doesn't like game, and despite making this known he was not offered any alternative and the staff member serving us seemed to think that was acceptable customer service for a tasting menu that normally costs £45 per person- to not be able to eat two of the 5 courses is pretty poor.
I was disappointed to find that despite making my food allergies known - that within the vegetarian menu on the second night there were two courses that contained these ingredients meaning it couldn't be eaten, so I also skipped a course. We asked to both skip the fourth course due to the above reasons (& to avoid wasting food), and the staff member was quite rude in her behaviour towards us - despite appearing to be a manager as she was dressed differently from other staff waiting tables. The poached pear was miniscule - a quarter of a pear, rock hard and not as expected. We left so hungry that we went and got food elsewhere which isn't how it should be.
Breakfasts are not as good as they used to be, for example there used to be dorset cereals which they now don't serve. I was surprised to see that the vegetarian breakfast came with Linda McCartney processed sausages rather than home made Glammorgan type sausages. Generally there is a good range of options for breakfast. Service today for breakfast was very slow - we had to ask twice for coffee that didn't arrive, both cooked options didn't arrive for a long time, when they did the poached eggs were so overcooked that they resembled boiled eggs, and my partner's cooked breakfast arrived cold with barely cooked bacon - in contrast to the day before.
