“Good Food, Good Atmosphere, Great Service--!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2014

Four of us had lunch at Sextons Bakery today. Three coffees (rich and flavorful); one latte (pronounced "very good"); an "eggy bread" with tomato and bacon (excellent bacon and lots of it); two toasties (one with brie and cranberry, one with goat's cheese and fig relish - both delicious); and vegetarian chili made with Quorn mince (not as hot as the customer preferred, but said to be very tasty nonetheless); and of course being a bakery nothing less than four sweets - two flapjacks, one custard tart, and a jam-laced pastry.

All the desserts passed muster (and then some!) and a second round of coffees + latte saw us off.

Total bill came to well under £40, including tip. Sure, McDonald's is cheaper, but the food at Sextons is made to order, baked goods are in-house products, and the coffee is fresh and smooth.

I highly recommend the establishment. And since there was hardly an empty table the hour or so we were there, it seems to be popular - deservedly so.

“Local baker and cafe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013

Very lucky to have a great local baker offering a great selection of breads, pies and cakes. There is also a great deli with a huge cheese selection, olives and many other tasty snacks etc, something special for sharing with friends. If you are after a specific cheese just ask and they will contact their suppliers. The cafe offers an excellent selection sandwiches with some very different and tasty fillings, not just the usual cheese & ham!. A good place to pop in for a take away lunch, sit by the canal and enjoy the views! and afterwards pop in to one of the 5 local pubs within 100mtrs walking distance, what a village!! enjoy!

“Good for a feed.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

We only sat down to eat here once, but the big breakfast was delicious. My sister had the ploughman's lunch which she said was all right, although the chunk of cheese almost made her gag when she had a nibble.

In the take-away bakery, the staff was usually straight-faced and unwilling to engage, but the lemon buns, while a little overpriced, were amazing. Hardly a hint of lemon, but that was okay with me. Beautiful custard cream inside and wonderfully fresh.

“Packed lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

A couple of nice sandwiches on excellent bread rolls. The pork pie was very tasty. Service in the shop was good. Could have done with a list on the wall for selecting fillings though.
