“Wonderful stay, incredible location, brilliant breakfast, fantastic value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2012

We stayed at Higher Farm for 2 nights for a friend's wedding. Heather is a wonderfully warm, very considerate host (room/front door key comes with a mini torch for finding your way home from the pub!). The place is immaculate, the welcome pack in the room is incredibly thorough but if there's anything else you need she's always on hand to help out, but not at all in an intrusive way. Breakfast is everything you could wish for, eggs from the farm hens, sausages from the pigs, all enjoyed with spectacular views of the valley and the distant Welsh hills. Brilliant. Stay here without giving it a second thought. I'll definitely return.

Spent one night here. The B & B was amazing. Its located in a tiny village with no shops and a lovely place to get away from it all. Heather greeted us and straight away we felt welcome. She asked if we needed anything addition and straight away she went about sorting it for us.
The bedroom was crisp clean with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, biscuits and chocolates. The en-suite was small but ample. Everything was perfect and well fitted.
We had a fantastic sleep, pity there was clouds else the view from the Velux window above our bed would of been lovely.
Breakfast was fantastic, we had a proper cooked, locally produced breakfast with fresh Orange Juice and filter coffee, exactly what we needed from the evening befores drinks.
We dont use B & B's usually but this was fantastic and would strongly recommend.
It was 10 minutes away from Carden Park and 30 from Chester.

We have taken mother away for her birthday treat to various hotels in England so to go to a Bed & Breakfast was a bit of an adventure - especially as this was her 99th birthday. But we need not have worried. From the moment we were greeted at the door by Heather we knew that all would be fine - and it was. Heather even knew that a 99 year old would prefer a cup and saucer in her room for tea/coffee rather that a bone china beaker. And just mention to Heather what your preferences for breakfast are and it appears - mother has a penchant for smoked haddock, not on the menu, but it was happily served. Only opened three years ago in converted farm buildings, the accommodation proved to be first class, Heather has obviously taken great pains to source good quality furniture, fixtures and fittings and it was a pleasure to be in such well appointed and comfortable surroundings. Barton is a bit remote but is ideally suited for touring Cheshire and into Wales and nearby gastro pubs offer evening meals.
We cannot speak too highly of the proprietors, Heather and Graham, who offered friendly, attentive service without being at all over-powering. All in all five stars all round.

My party of extended family was attending a wedding a nearby Cardin Park and my daughter found this working farm B&B on the web and asked me what I thought. I emailed Heather, the farmer's wife, and her response was quick and friendly. The farm is tucked away up a short lane and the minute you arrive you find yourself relaxing listening to the sound of silence broken only by birdsong and the occasional mooing from cows in a distant field. Heather and her husband Graham were so friendly and relaxed we knew instantly that we had made a good choice. The rooms are beautiful - straight out of glossy magazines - but they are also very comfortable (I went to sleep gazing at the stars above my bed via a retractable roof window!). I have been in less luxurious surroundings where the place is full of signs saying 'do not do this' or 'this is not allowed' etc but there was none of this at Higher Farm. Information about surrounding attractions was provided by Heather including the number of a local taxi company to ferry us a mile up the road to the wedding venue (we didn't want to stay at the huge corporate venue). The breakfast choice is enormous - I had practically everything! - and this has to be the best in the UK for quality (organic), quantity and selection - the black pudding is to die for.
I can not praise Higher Farm enough, it was perfect and I intend to return some day and the warm and friendly personalities of Heather and Graham and the way they run the B&B makes it extra special.

I stayed in Higher Farm with my family whilst attending a wedding at Carden Park (les than a mile away), and I am so glad I did!
The location of this place is amazing, the views are spectacular and the house(s) and rooms are exquisite - comfortable yet plush and really nice little touches like local scenery photographs and paintings, bottles of water by the bed etc.
What made this place special however, was the owners, who were accommodating, friendly and nice beyond belief! Breakfast was better than any 5* hotel I have stayed at (with local organic produce, its hardly surprising) and the atmosphere was lovely and relaxed.
I would definitely stay here again and would recommend anyone staying in the area to check out their website and book here as the experience was first class!
We took in a local ice cream farm on the way back up to Scotland, which was also worth a stop!

We were attending a wedding in the very nearby Carden Park and required accomodation as close as possible. Stumbled across this gem of a place on the internet while searching the villages around Carden Park. I contacted the owners Heather & Graham directly by email and had a reply very promptly from Heather, who was really helpful and accomodating. Upon arrival me and my wife just thought what a wonderful place. The converted barn was so charming and the views of the cheshire plains were just extraordinary. When we arrived we were greeted very warmly by Heather who was just simply lovely and helpful. We stayed in The Roost and what a lovely little room this was. Extremely clean and well decorated with an absolutely lovely modern bathroom/en suite which was beautifully clean. The room had a sky light with blackout blind and the view overlooked the Cheshire Plains and was quite stunning. After returning from the wedding, we got into bed and enjoyed one of the most comfortable nights sleep we have ever had in a hotel/b&b. The breakfast in the morning was superb, really nicely cooked, fresh and plenty of toast and coffee. The location was really handy for us attending the wedding as it is actually only a short walk from Carden Park( from the gate Higher Farm is actually only about 1/4 mile but the driveway of Carden Park is 1 mile) Overall Higher Farm is a wonderful place to stay, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone as it truly represents great value for money.
