“nice setting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013 via mobile

The location, setting and building were nice but the rooms were average and a little noicy. We stayed in a room on the third floor with a balcony (no chairs) and a very small shared bathrrom with a worthless shower and a ground floor room with an outside entrance that was a little quieter and had an ensuite bath but lacked the ventilation of the airy rooms upstairs. The staff were quite nice, the laundry lady washed our muddy clothes from a day treking and got them spotless, they also had a place outside where we could wash our muddy shoes. The owners were nice but you didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling.

after trying many different places in tanah rata, we picked this one as it was the only one we could actually sleep in. i would definitely not recommend the other cheap places in this town. building from the outside was nice but the equipment inside was really old. the property was clean. no shoes allowed. kids from other rooms were running around the building and screaming until very late and a chinese group was really loud too and no one cared and did something about the noise.

Me and my Lovely Wife;) stayed there for two nights. We have arrived in Cameron Highlands during the day,we didn't book anything in advance,as we read that is easy to find accommodation just on arrival. On the bus stop was few local guys waiting for tourists with some offers, the cheapest was some 60 rinngits,we wanted to find something cheaper than that;) as we travel as backpackers,we seen two places before we get to Hillview Inn,there were ok but nothing special. We asked for price per room in Hillview,on the beginning guy in the reception told us that min price per room for couple is 66 Rinngits, then he said if we want to share bathroom we can have one for 50 R.That was a Friday and he told us that from next day prices will go bit higher because of the weekend and will be more busy,so we have paid for two nights straight away;) for this same price.
We had a very nice room, very bright and specious, with share balcony.Whole building was very clean, you had to leave your shoes downstairs by reception, share bathroom was bit small but also nice. Was nice and quiet outside,5 min walk to Main Street
We had a breakfast one day,was good and reasonable price;)
Overall we were really HAPPY TO STAY THERE!!!

Plus: Room was generally clean and well appointed, price was good (140MR for twin room per night). Location is excellent, being around 5m walk from the town centre.

Minus: Bed linen could have been a little cleaner, bed was too soft. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

Brusque, matter of fact service from the front desk but kitchen staff riendly.

After arriving at the busterminal we checked some guesthouses in the vicinity,
but they were all full. Finally , after rooming around a lot, I saw that beautiful impressive building. Nice garden entrance too. The Indian owner/manager showed us some rooms and we could choose one.
99 Ringgit for a clean dbl.room with balcony, hotwater, no fan, no arcond.,simple furnitere. Anyway, it rained and it became so cold at night (no heating). Too cold ! As we had a room towards the garden side, at night we heard all the noise from the road. So better choose a room towards the back if you have ligth sleep only.Location excellent, 10 min walk to busterminal, lost of restaurants and shops on the way .

We arrived in Tanah Rata without any reservation. We had dinner in a local restaurant and decided to walk to some hotels. As we saw the Hillview Inn, It looked like a mix of English and Swiss style house. At that point we decided to give it a try. We shared a bathroom with one other room. That was okay. The room had carpet so we questioned how clean it was. The beds were good and the size of the room was normal. The price was a little too high, as breakfast was not included. After all we were a little disappointed because the ydillc outside was promising.

i somehow regretted booking a night stay here, though the rooms (which i think were very expensive for budget travelers like us) were ok, spacious and clean and we were given the room overlooking tana rata village and surrounding mountains, only the staff were not really helpful and friendly.. we felt like strangers in a very lonely place.
nonetheless, the place is within walking distance away to restaurants, banks, shops and bus station. they offer tour packages too and bus transfer to kl which we availed but regretted again because the bus was not as nice as the unititi express we rode from KL to cameron.
i will find another hostel/inn if ever we come back to cameron highlands..there are a lot of decent place to stay around tana rata with better hospitality.
