“Should Be Called Jay's Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

On our second day in Tanah Rata, my wife said, "I think you've got a little crush on Jay". I didn't deny it. I said, "Why wouldn't I have a little crush on someone who's smart, friendly, entertaining and very attractive".

As many others had said, Jay, who co-owns this place (with her husband Gerard) and manages this place (Gerard manages Father's Guest House, which they also own) is a big part of the attraction here. But there's a lot more to like. Gerard's is composed of several three bedroom apartments in a big apartment complex. The individual bedrooms are rented to guests. One room in each apartment has a private bathroom, while the other two share a bathroom. All three rooms share a common living room, dining space and kitchen (with fridge and dishes, but no cooking quipment other than a toaster and electric kettle). Views from our balcony were lovely. Our room was plenty large and the bed was very comfortable. Fixings for light breakfast are provided: bread, butter, cream cheese, milk, cereal, fruit, tea, coffee.

This is an excellent deal, although it is a bit of a walk to the town center (10 minutes going down the hill, more like 15 coming back up.

This rating is mostly based on Jay, the owner, for her lovely help in time of need. On our backpack trip thru Asia i got sick while coincidentally staying at Gerard's Place and it left me without any energy what so ever for a full day. My girlfriend left for the mossy trail in the Highlands (after some persuasion) but as soon as Jay found out i was lifeless she did everything she could possibly do to patch me up! Thanks for your kindness Jay! The place itself could have been a copy of the living room of your apartment you have back home, except this one had some of the big rooms divided in several smaller ones with 2 total bathrooms. It was spotless as well which is always nice, especially when your sick. The shower was a bit cold at first but you have got to learn how to work those electric heaters and i'll give you nice hot water. Breakfast was simple but free and strong wifi available. If only the place could be a bit closer to town (there wasn't a sidewalk of the road which made it a bit dodgy at night) and this place would take the cake. But with an owner this caring Gerard's Place still deserves a 5 star rating.

Room Tip: Spent a couple of bucks more and get the room with the balcony to enjoy some good looking flowers ou...

All the previous positive reviews say it all and we'd have to agree. It's a great place to stay in a really nice location. Jay is super friendly and helpful and goes out of her way to make you feel welcome and tell you about the best things to do in Cameron Highlands.

We stayed here for 3 nights enroute to Taman Negara from Langkawi. We're backpacking for 1 year so were looking for something affordable on a budget and clean. We were not disspointed. The room was part of a 6 bedroom apartment which was like staying home from home. Very nicely decorated, clean, cosy lounge and TV area to hang out in and one of the best hosts we have met during our trip. Jay! What a lovely lady. She went out of her way to make sure we were happy, organised and had enough information about the area so that we could enjoy our time in the cameron highlands. We did lots of the local trails which were beautiful. Some easy and some tough! If you like trekking you MUST do Mt Brinchang. Amazing walk/climb through the rainforest, climbing over tree roots, mossy walkways and looking through the enchanting forests. The apartment block is about 7mins walk down a small hill to get to the Main Street where the few shops and cafes are. We loved our stay here and would like to thank Jay for her hospitality and warm heart. We enjoyed meeting you.

I am really happy that i ended up at Gerard's Place. Cosy rooms, huge living room and kitchen, beautiful garden. You feel there like at home. And it is not only because of the place, it because of the heart you can feel there. It is thanks to Jay!
She will answer your questions patiently, she will help organize you any trip you wish, she will bring you the most exotic plants, spices you wish and explain about Malaysia's people, land and culture.
Beautifully located, magic place.

What else should I say after all the other reviews? A very warm welcome, very clean room and a living area like you're at home. The place is quiet and the view from the balcony is wonderfull. Jay arranged my mossy forest tour and the bustickets to go to langkawi. I would really reccomend this place to anyone visiting the cameron highlands! Thanks for the great stay.

What should I add to all the good reviews of Gerard's Place?
The place is fabulous, we always said 'Let's go home' instead of 'Let's go to our hostel' :) The apartment consists of a large living room with corner sofa (and big TV), a kitchen and 7 rooms. The living room was the place to meet the others, we spent quite a few hours there. The beds were wide and of excellent quality!!
The two shared bathrooms (with shower & toilet) were clean. Ceiling fans were there, but weren't used as the year round 21 degrees was perfect. Free wifi and computer available. Gerard friendly showed us the way after checking in @Father's Guesthouse (!). Do book in advance when staying in peak season.
