“A disappointing visit”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

After my mum had spoken often about how good the Bird in Hand was, I booked a meal as part of her 90th birthday celebration. Although the pub was busy with what looked liked returning customers, I would not rush back. The roast meat (beef and lamb) were in my opinion pre-cooked and not freshly roasted. The meat was not hot, in fact rather barely warm although the veggies seemed to be freshly cooked. It was a huge disappointment. The waitress offered to replace the meals but we opted for a bowl of soup instead. Everyone else appeared to be enjoying their meals so perhaps we were just unlucky.

“Lovely walk, lovely food, good service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

The Bird in hand is right by the side of the Bath to Bristol cycle/footpath, so it was good to stop after a nice walk and have a good pint and a steak and Guinness pie that would satisfy Desperate Dan.

“Awful is not the word”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

Visited with family and I have never experienced such terrible customer service in all my life. It was quiet and devoid of atmosphere yet our food seemed to take forever. The waiting staff seemed to be going through some form of mid life crisis and didnt offer any form if greeting or communication even when I ordered. They seemed to be more interested in texting which I could understand if they were not all middle aged. The cutelry was plonked down as if I caused offence ordering. Very strange experience. Go to the jolly sailor which is further down the road, much better location and atmosphere and worth the 5 minute cycle.

“A hidden gem for all”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

This is a traditional English pub that is off the main road through Saltford and is near the cycle track and the river. We have stopped here several times now for a bite to eat, so far I can say that we have not had a bad meal yet.

However the main reason we keep coming here is due to the friendly nature of the staff and the locals, this is a very family friendly place to bring children for a meal and is the perfect stop off point for cycling a long the cycle track between Bristol and Bath.

“Good place for a relaxed lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

We had a family lunch at this pub. Very pleasant surroundings in the conservatory. Did not go into the main part of the pub as I did not do ordering so cannot comment. Very clean. Excellent choice on menu. Good sixed portions. The 2 male members had three courses, all of which they enjoyed. I had two which were great and the other girl in the party had just a very large main which she said filled her up. The access fromthe rear car park (?is there a front one) could be awkward if you couldn't manage steps but the interior was on the flat. The staff were very friendly and efficient. They did not mind that we stayed quite some time after our meal chatting.

Would thoroughly recommend this place and would go back quite happily.
