“Highly recommend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

Found this lovely pub on the internet, and what a good find it was. We stayed 2 nights and really enjoyed it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Our twin bed room was very good, with everything you need for a homely stay, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits! TV, hairdryer. We stayed dinner the food and service was good. There was a breakfast menu with plenty of choices all priced seperately, we had the full English breakfast which was very good. There is a car park, but also plenty of street parking if it gets full. It's close to Ely and Cambridge, and there are bus stops for both just outside. The only downside would be if you want an early night, there was a beer garden outside our bedroom window so we could hear lots of lively banter, but as the pub closes at 12 we didn't find it a problem. We will be making regular visits in the future and can highly recommend a visit.

We stayed for 2 nights so we could visit Ely & Cambridge. Great central location for both. Accommodation was clean and comfortable with everything you could need including TV, tea/coffee & biscuits and basic toiletries. Excellent value for money. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious and well cooked. Friday was fish night with fish supplied from sustainable sources, so they consider the environment as well. Their daily menu was available as well for those who don't want fish. They also have a special board too. Breakfast is freshly cooked to order, unlike some hotels who serve pre cooked heated food. Would definitely visit again and recommend to family & friends.

We recently stayed at the Red Lion for two nights whilst attending a wedding in nearby Ely Cathedral. Not knowing the area and never having heard of the Red Lion before we read the reviews which were mixed and were a little undecided but decided to give it a go. It was the best choice we could have made.
The accommodation was excellent, clean, comfortable and spacious enough for two people in a double room. The food was very good and there was plenty of choice at all meal times. Best of all was the excellent service from all the staff, (but especially Matt, for whom nothing was too much trouble). They were all friendly and ready to help us with anything we asked.

It is set in a nice little village a few miles outside Ely with some good walks around it.
I would visit again and recommend this lovely pub to everyone.

This looked as though it would be a lovely place to stay for visiting Ely. In some ways, it was - it was situated in a village within an easy drive of Ely, and the price was very reasonable - £90 for two people staying 2 nights. The restaurant was good,. although I would have liked to see more vegetarian options. The staff were excellent - friendly and professional - we couldn't fault any of the staff. We had an upstairs bedroom that overlooked the beer garden and open air pool table. On the Friday night, it was quite noisy from outside. The Saturday night was a lot quieter. The room was clean, and had all the facilities we would expect, such as tea, coffee and chocolate making facilities, with biscuits, a TV and hairdryer. The ensuite shower room was clean, with a good shower, and shampoo and conditioner was provided. However, the beds were the most uncomfortable my husband and I had ever slept on! We could feel every spring through the mattress.Another problem was that the heavy bedding lay over the whole bed, which hid the wooden posts at each corner of the bed - I sat down expecting to feel a lovely soft divan, but stood up again quickly when I realised I had hit a wooden pole! We didn't have breakfast at the hotel but we are aware that it cost around £4.50 for the light breakfast, and £7.50 for the full breakfast. The prices of the evening meals in the restaurant were very reasonable and the menu was varied and extensive.

Was a lovely place to visit when I went to Ely for an operation, the food as lovely and severed quickly in a lovely restaurant.
Was lovely room that was warm and comfy, had everything you would expect in a modern up to date hotel such as a TV and great view of the church of the town. Easy to get to Ely from there and much cheaper than staying in Ely its self, not even that far from Cambridge, would recommend it to anyone as it was a brilliant stay.
the staff were very friendly and helpful, helped with directions to get to the hospital when I did not know the area at all, very helpful in accommodating us on our visit.

Room Tip: Rooms above the terrace can be a bit noisy depending on the people that are there on the night as yo...

I stayed here For 1 night on a visit to Ely.
I was a little worried having read some of the poor reviews.
What we found was modern clean accomodation, friendly staff, good food and an excellent pint.
Our room was in an annexe off the side of the pub, so there was no pub noise and parking was plentiful.
All in all it was great value for the price we paid.
