“Good Value Romantic Package.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

We Stayed at this hotel for 1 night on the romantic package which included Dinner Bed and breakfast and a bottle of Champagne impressively delivered to our room within 5 minutes of our arrival. We were upgraded to a suite which overlooked the gardens and was extremely clean and spacious. The staff were young and attentive in every way and keen to help us enjoy our stay, after reading reviews of other guests we agree that a slight degree of uncertainty surrounded the staff in their manner but we put this down to inexperience. The food in the restaurant was exceptional.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and considered it to be excellent value for money and would definitely return.

Room Tip: Check if there is a function on during your stay and if so insist on a quiet room.

This is lovely looking place set in beautiful grounds although we felt the formal gardens could have been a little more extensive and better maintained. We liked the informal wildflower meadows surrounding the hotel, though. The room was very good - very clean and well-maintained. We had an afternoon tea included in our booking, but I got the impression that they had not got a record of that, as they seemed surprised when we turned up in the restaurant for it and had to go off and check. After waiting a while, we were given a seat and a tea, but we noticed that it didn't look a patch on the tea of the other party who were just finishing theirs. I got the distinct impression that we got the leftovers quickly thrown together and it was disappointing.
However, the evening meal was excellent although the place was very quiet and lacked atmosphere. Staff were helpful and pleasant. Overall, pleasant but not outstanding.

To say this is in a busy area, the location and grounds make it a very comfortable place to stay. The staff were attentive and the service at the evening meal was very good especially with the excellent attentive service we receieved from a young man Jake. The bedroom was clean and comfortable. There is certainly nothing wrong with a stay at this hotel.
We have stayed at a number of Classic Lodge Hotels and enjoy them for the relaxed atmosphere they give. This Hotel so far number two on our list for those hotels in the group, so far.

Enjoyed a two night stay under the "Summer Solstice" deal which was excellent value. This consisted of two nights bed, breakfast, evening meal in a deluxe room with afternoon tea on arrival. From the time that we arrived the staff were friendly yet professional throughout - nothing was too much trouble. The room was excellent - well furnished, comfortable and spotlessly clean with a good sized en-suite. The bed was large and very comfortable. The hotel is perfectly located in secluded grounds for a peaceful stay and that is exactly what we wanted. It was just a shame about the weather as the grounds were so beautiful it would have been nice to sit outside. The food was excellent throughout the stay from the afternoon tea on arrival, the evening meal and the breakfast - compliments to the chef. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend a stay here.

Room Tip: Rooms that face the front away from any disturbances of private functions.

Enjoyed an overnight stay for a large (150-ish) wedding reception buffet and disco. We arrived early and were impressed by the automatic iron gates into the parking area. Reception was OK-ish but could have given a lot more info. In fact other guests who arrived just before 3pm had to wait for the staff to finish a meeting before they could check in. Room was excellent. Well furnished, comfortable and spotlessly clean with a good sized en-suite. The bed was large and very comfortable...like sleeping on a cloud ! Bar and waiting staff were top class. Full marks to the bars manager on a manically busy night. Breakfast was, as usual these days, a dreaded buffet-style which was pretty good apart from stone-cold and under-cooked bacon. Checking out was easy and the bills were spot on. The grounds were well kept but a little open and bland. There are no swimming or recreational facilities at all. Overall an excellent stay for what we wanted.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room which was very, very quiet. We didn't hear any bad reports from the ot...

My daughters treated me to a father's day afternoon tea so with my partner, we were a party of four. They pre-warned the hotel about our dietary needs.
On arrival we were given a warm welcome and shown to our table. Our dietary requirements had been correctly noted and our sandwiches were appropriately prepared.
The scones were perfect, the wide selection of cakes excellent and the service faultless. And we were also offered a complimentary glass of sparkling wine.
The room was pleasant and bright overlooking the garden.
What more could one ask for?
I suppose a word of caution. This is not a olde worlde hotel so don't compare with Luton Hoo or the likes for atmosphere. However, the cost isn't comparable either so all in all great value.
Recommended.

We were given a voucher for an afternoon tea at Grovefield house and it was fantastic.

When we arrived we were taken to the restaurant and shown to a table overlooking the gardens.

The waiter offered us a choice of teas and coffees and brought them with our tier of cakes and sandwiches.

The sandwiches were great on fresh quality bread and were full of fillings.

The cakes and scones were fantastic and a very good selection. The scones were fresh and crumbly which were accompanied with jam and cream.

What I like about it was everything was of a good quality and the service and the ambience in the restaurant was great, not like on some other afternoon teas that we have been to.

Would I go back ? Yes try and stop me!
