“Perfect start to our holiday!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

We spent the first three nights of our holiday at the River House. Karl gave us a very genuine warm welcome and we felt very much at home. Just the right amount of decoration around the place. The bed was very comfortable and the rooms spotlessly clean and warm. My husband doesn't normally eat breakfast but he couldn't get around Karl's delicious food. Thanks also to Helen for the yummie tomatoe relish and other home made goods! We wish all the other places we stayed would have been like this. If we ever get back into the area, we'll definitely stay again. Awesome!

We were lucky enough to stay for a night at this beautiful little "boutique" Bed and breakfast for a girls night. The four of us were welcomed warmly by Karl and made to feel very at home. The rooms are very clean with a luxurious bathroom, heated floors, double shower and double basins. Everything has a clean, crisp feel to it, including the lovely bed.
Breakfast was served in the lounge/dining room with an amazing view of the Tamar River. Beautiful breakfast of fruit, Tamar valley yoghurt and then raisin toast with cinnamon apples and fruche. Delicious. We were even farewelled as we left by Karl waving us goodbye at the front door.
Highly recommend this beautiful little gem to anyone.

It was the last of our 9 nights stay in Tasmania. We're exhausted and so ready to go home. Thought just a warm bed would be nice. The River House turned out to be such a delightful ending. Karl and Helen just made us so happy. The place (The Studio) is genuinely a 10 out of 10 for us. Spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, well equipped with everything we need, fantastic host. In fact, it even exceeds our expectation !! What impressed us most are 1. The Nespresso machine: It made great cups of coffee.. Yes, we had 4 cups !! Love it !! 2. Double showers with underfloor heating 3.The very white and very crisp bed linen. It's truly a 5 star quality. 4.Super delicious pancakes with warm berries. So yum ! The list is getting too long to be true, I know...but it's true. Thanks Karl and Helen for making us an early breakfast for us to catch the 9.30 flight. Definitely recommend this place !!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Studio.

Stayed here with my girlfriend over easter (2013) for a couple of nights.

This was actually our first time staying in a B&B and we thought it was amazing!

Our host Carl was awesome - I think he was a chef in a former life! Breakfast was great both mornings. He was also full of tips of where to go and what to do.

The accommodation was perfect. Beautiful outlook over the river from an elevated position and just a few minutes drive from town. Clean rooms and well appointed. Great range of books and DVD's available to borrow.

Highly recommend and would definitely go back I was in the area!

We began our 10 day Tassie holiday by staying in the apartment at The River House for a couple of nights. The accommodation is beautifully furnished, the bath & bedroom luxurious, the kitchen excellently equipped. We arrived to a table laden with freshly baked bread, hand made chocolates, fresh fruit, muesli, home made jams, juice, eggs, bacon etc. !! Carl and Helen have created such a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere where their thoughtfulness and generosity makes you feel both at home and a very, very special guest. The Tamar River serenely flowed along as we rested under the trees sipping a local Pinot. Absolutely perfect, and the best place we stayed in Tassie. Georgie & Matt (Sydney)

My husband and I together with two friends stayed at the River House for three nights in late January, early February 2013. We cannot speak highly enough of this guesthouse.
Wonderful rooms, great views and excellent service. The owners, Carl and Helen were absolutely wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble. Carl cooks a delicious breakfast every morning with freshly baked bread. He even made me my own loaf of gluten free bread upon request. Helen bakes a mean lemon slice for guests to enjoy and there is port as a nightcap as well.
The River House has beautiful decor and everything is spotless. There are great views of the river from the breakfast table along with yoghurt, fresh and beautifully presented fruit salad along with the cooked breakfast.
If we had any questions or needed any advice on where to go Carl and Helen were more than helpful.
We cannot speak highly enough of our stay and would highly recommend the River House to anyone who enjoys good old fashioned service and genuine hospitality.

Thanks Carl and Helen. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Regards, George and Mary and Steve and Julie

We stayed in the Gardenview Studio over the long weekend in March. The B&B is exactly as it is described on the website (i.e., everything – Facilities, Accommodation, etc).

The room was really lovely, and immaculately clean. We found it quite spacious and were pleasantly surprised at how large the kitchette was (I’ve lived in flats with smaller kitchens).

The fixtures, fittings, supplies (utensils, dinnerware, towels etc) throughout the room were very good quality. In the bathroom, as well as the usual shampoo, conditioner, soap, tissues and hairdryer, the hosts even supply [brand new] toothpaste and a toothbrush in case you forget to bring yours (let’s face it, it’s happened to the best of us). That’s indicative of how thoughtful the hosts are. Oh, there is a first aid kit supplied in the bathroom too.

The rest of the property is charming. As mentioned by previous reviewers, there is port and a sweet snack in the lounge area available to guests. There are books, DVDs and CDs if you get sick of looking at the scenery. Speaking of which, looking out over the Tamar River is a gorgeous view.

The breakfast – I must mention the breakfast. Again, it’s exactly like it’s described on their website. It was all delicious, particularly the cooked course. The home-made preserves were also impressive. One morning we were joined by a group of girls who had been up late the night before at a concert. In addition to providing each of us with our own serve of ricotta pancakes, Carl brought out an extra plate of pancakes for the girls, thinking they might be extra hungry. Again, that show’s how thoughtful the hosts are.

Carl and Helen have done a wonderful job; truly nothing about the accommodation or the experience can be faulted. Staying at River House feels as though you are staying with family* or good friends. It’s a very warm and relaxed atmosphere and I highly recommend it. We would love to return one day.

*although that depends on your family, I suppose.
