Having been gifted our overnight by family members, we decided to approach the hotel to arrange our date of visit. Booking was confirmed. On approaching our date of arrival& not having received confirmation, another phone call was duly made. Well, where was everyone? Eventually, after more attempts & long telephone waits, SUCCESS, but guess what - No booking was found. However, we were lucky a shelling was available. Credit card particulars were requested, even although everything had been prepaid.
On arrival we had no difficulties, and were taken to our accomodation. All was lovely, even down to ground coffee with lots of other variations of hot drinks. Lovely toiletries, soft towels etc. Very peaceful & cosy. The lack of TV for us was a bonus as we were looking for a peaceful retreat.
The sitting room & other accomodation is nice, but lacks something to enhance the ambience. This was particularly evident in the entrance area. A lovely vase of flowers, plant or an inclusion of a warm coloured piece of artwork or upholstery would not go amiss. I personally feel this gives a sense of welcome & warmth. Flowers or plants, if well cared for I feel add delightful colourful detail.
Our evening dinner was delicious, but no choice was offered. Having said that, we were comfortable with what was on offer, but if you have any request or dietary requirements be sure to mention on booking. The wine we selected was delightful & nicely served. So all said & done, we had a lovely meal. Pre& after dinner drinks were very fairly priced.
Breakfast was a bit disappointing. Having been given a menu, only two choices were available. We found this peculiar No bacon, scrambled eggs, omelettes or other available. The choices were kipper & tomato. Or egg, 1 sausage, potato scone, black pudding. Come on Ardeonaig, this is Scotland!!!
Our experience was good however we were very aware that comments previously made could occur & we could see why. We felt that although all the staff we meet were lovely, it was a bit like a "rudderless ship" it lacked direction or overall cohesion. An oversee by someone who could bring all things together in relation to freshening of decor & general day to day running before further deterioration wear & tear, could take the uncertainty out of what basically is a lovely establishment in a beautiful scenic area. This is a expensive experience therefore all standards have to be met. We would have difficulty in recommending with certainty to friends for consistency Come on Ardeonaig, Get the act together.m
