We had no idea what to expect when we hopped off the Postbus in the middle of the village of Vex. We made our way with our bags down the slope and gradually the path became narrower, the houses gave way to wild cherry trees and then this lovely, traditional style wooden chalet emerged, tucked away on its little corner overlooking the valley behind.
A stay at Chalet le Rucher is such a warm and special experience that I dare say it would be wasted on anyone just looking for a place to spend the night. From the moment you enter and see your room decorated with traditional antiques and are welcomed at the fireplace with a glass of homemade peach nectar and champagne - you know you are in for a unique stay.
Patricia has to be one of the most warm and thoughtful hosts we've encountered. She literally makes it her mission to help you explore the secret gems of her corner of Valais. From amazing hikes through villages that appear frozen in time to local restaurants where you can eat traditional Raclette - she knows absolutely everything and will send you out each morning with armloads of maps and suggestions on how to make the most of your day.
Dinner and breakfast at the chalet are a huge treat and we were always excited to come to the table to see what Patricia would put out next. From homemade pear juice and green tomato jam to cherry clafouti and strawberries from her own garden - everything that appeared on the table was prepared with care and love.
We felt truly spoiled after our weekend here and our hugs to Patricia were genuine when we left. We are already planning a date to return!
