“Overall, comfortable, spacious & well situated for exploring the Loire valley.”

Service of the owner the best my wife has experienced. House on fairly busy main road, not attractive from the outside. Close to town centre. Very spacious, upstairs has very low beams and doorways - crash helmets needed!
Excellent welcome pack. TV should be in a museum but did work (couldn't get any radio, though). Kitchen fine but could do with a toaster.

“Great accommodation in an ideal location.”

We had a fantastic stay in the Loire Valley thanks to finding this wonderful accommodation at the last minute. Patricia was amazingly helpful, responding to emails quickly and providing us with directions from Tours airport as well as a lovely welcome hamper of local foods, wine and beers. We booked La Maison which is beautifully furnished and decorated with an eclectic feel. It has a well equipped kitchen and a spacious living/dining area with french doors opening onto the garden. The boys (8 and 11 years) had great fun in the splash pool while we soaked up the sun reclining on the loungers after breakfast each day before heading off to one of the chateaux which are all within easy driving distance of the property. We had fantastic days out in Blois, Amboise, Chenonceaux and Loches, the boys particularly enjoyed La Clos du Luce (last home of Leonardo da Vinci) and Loches, both being exceptional value for money with lots to entertain children (interactive models of Leonardo's inventions & falconry, musicians, stilt-walkers and fire-breathers at Loches). Montrichard itself is a beautiful, historic town with markets, shops, restaurants and a 'beach' on the River Cher where you could happily spend a day swimming and sunbathing while the children have fun in the playground or mini funfair - you can also hire kayaks etc at very reasonable rates. The only issue you may have with the house is the restricted head height in the main bathroom but this is to be expected in a property of character and the second bathroom is perfectly adequate. Also, there is persistent road noise through the night, but this is a very small price to pay for being able to stroll into town in the morning to buy beautiful fresh croissants and bread - it really wasn't an issue for us - we soon got used to it and the quality of the accommodation far outweighed any mild inconvenience. I would whole-heartedly recommend staying at this property and, although we didn't see inside Le Cottage, I would imagine it would be perfect if you were a family wanting to holiday with grandparents as you would each have your own space. The quality of the towels and bedding should also be mentioned as they really were excellent. All in all a fantastic place to stay - I only wish we had been able to stay for a fortnight rather than a week - thanks Patricia - Salut!

“Very comfortable & clean in a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2012 for a stay in May 2012

We spent a long weekend here to visit the International Garden Festival at Chaumont which was well worth a visit and much less traditional than Chelsea Flower Show!
If you're a garden lover Chenonceau is also really close.

All the way through from initial enquiry to return of deposit Patricia could not have been more helpful and responsive. Although I'm fluent in French it was much easier to deal with booking and financial matters in English.

The house was really well equipped and nice and clean. We hired both the house and cottage to have all 3 bedrooms but we spent all our awake time in the house and there was plenty of room for the 4 of us. The living room area is well away from the kitchen, and although it is open the noise doesn't travel so TV is not disturbed by cooking or chatting.

We flew with Ryanair direct from Manchester to Tours and brought minimal luggage but it was no problem as everything was provided including a comprehensive welcome pack:- milk, butter, eggs, cheese, orange juice etc etc. Oh, plus wine and beer which cheered even the grumpy old men in our party :-)
The information pack in the house was really helpful for planning where to eat, where to visit and how to operate everything in the house.

We were a party of 2 x fortysomethings and my parents 2 x active seventysomethings!
As my parents didn't want to drive, having the town so close and a train station at 20 minutes walk away was a big bonus giving more independence.
The town is pleasant without being over 'touristy'. It has a really nice bakery and a couple of small supermarkets all within easy walking distance of the house.

We loved the house but I'll mention a couple of points which could be a drawback for some people. As you might expect from a house with character there are some low beams upstairs - lower in the main house than the Cottage. There is also some road noise particularly from the double room in the house which is closest to the road - the twin and the double in the cottage are less affected. The driveway requires a bit of confidence in manoeuvring when two cars are using it. However, there is a car park only a few steps away from the house for anyone not up to the challenge. However, once the vehicles are in, it is very secure with gates and a high wall.

It is an ideal house in a great location particularly for English speakers and anyone who doesn't want to have to drive everywhere. The weather combined with a busy schedule didn't allow us to use the patio and garden areas but they are very nice and the garden is fully enclosed.

“Home from home without being too close to home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2012 for a stay in April 2011

April 2011 was my third stay at this villa. It is typically French and you can stroll into town to at least five boulangeries and get everything else that you need from the local shops. There is a lively market on certain days too.

The villa is clean , well-appointed and versatile. The "Welcome" pack was a particularly thoughful addition. Everything about the place puts you at ease and you will be hard pressed to identify anything that isn't provided in the inventory.

I enjoyed exploring the Loir et Cher region and there are numerous picture postcard chateaux under an hour away. Amboise, Bloise, Tours are all worth a visit and if you don't want to drive there's a good rail service too.

Further afield there is Chinon and Fontevrault Abbey. Culture or wine, they are both to be found in abundance using the villa as your base.

Alternatively you can simply lounge in the garden with a good book and have an alfresco meal, it's all here for whatever you want to do on any given day.

“A Real Home”

Having rented holiday houses for more than 20 years this is one that we happy to return to - again and again. It is very well equipped and maintained in a great location. It is ideal for touring the Loire/Cher region with numerous chateaux, vineyards and historic market towns yet within walking distance to a delightful small town with great restaurants, regular markets and excellent supermarkets. We love it - and would love to find one of our own like this in the future.
